I can't believe the replies to this. It amazes me how so many mothers take everything they read as gospel. All babies are different. I would venture to guess that nearly every woman on here who is harping about feeding solids too early, etc. was given solids before their 2nd month of age by their mother. We have become such over protective "by the book" weak parents. This is an example of why children run households now, and not parents - because parents are afraid to break the mold. I personally fed all of my kids rice and/or oatmeal VIA A BOTTLE by the time they were 6 weeks old. I did it before even asking their doctor because AS A MOTHER, I knew what was right for MY children. Their cereal was very thick which made solids a piece of cake to try. I introduced solid foods by 3 months - using a variety of methods; my favorite being - IN A BOTTLE! When I told their doctor(s), he asked me if there were any problems and if their bowel movements were still regular. When I told him, "yes," he was okay with it. Criticize me all you want - I don't care. My children are very healthy, happy, and have always been good eaters.

All I know is that NO BABY needs any form of solids, cereals until 4-6 months of age. 6 is really the earliest most pediatricians reccomend and it should not be given in a bottle but on a spoon or finger.

You should never put any kind of baby food, cereal or otherwise, in a baby's bottle.. It poses a serious choking hazard. If they can't eat it by spoon, they aren't ready for it.

Chill. I didn't say I did it. I was just curious because I had heard of it. It was purely a question of curiosity and nothing more :)

you can put cereal in a bottle they say not to but if your baby had reflex your doctor would tell you to, but baby food shouldnt go in a bottle an everybody will tell you a different age to start your baby in solids my son was 8 weeks an 2 days the first time he ate veggies an i was told by my son doctor that i could give it to him but really really you no your baby better then any doctor an even at that just try some cereal an see how your baby does an then do that for awhile an then maybe try some veggies stage 1 an you have to do the same one for 3 days to make sure your baby dont get a rash or nuthing but if your baby starts spitting up out the norm then you should stop with the solids an wait another month or so good luck

No no no! You should never put cereal or food in the bottle! They could choke! Only feed food with a spoon while they are sitting up, and wait until 6 months. Milk is all they need until then.

Thats so nasty.

I was always afraid to do that because a friend had told me they can breath the cereal into their lungs if it goes down the wrong pipe because they may be trying to eat to fast. I always sat my kids up in a bouncy seat w/ a spoon. Merry Christmas!

nope. mixed baby cereal a couple times to see if it helped my daughter's reflux, but it didn't. Other than those few times I'd never even considered doing so.

Yes, I have. My daughter just would not eat for anything. I know they tell you not to, but I did. I used Dr.Brown's bottles and bought the Y cut nipple and it worked like a charm with no harm done. She started getting 1st foods, yougrt, baby oatmeal mixed with milk & breast milk to thin it at 5 1/2 months. Finally at 11 months of age she dove face first into my sandwich & from that day has eaten on her own. I even made all of her baby food & forget it she wanted no part of it. I would have lost my mind if it were not for giving her food from a bottle. She is fine now (sitting next to me eating bell peppers & chicken at 22 months) & not the slighest bit over weight. Try it.

When my daughter (now 9) was a few months old I took my grandma's tip and added a bit of rice cereal to her bottle only before bed, she would sleep through the night as her lil belly would stay full longer. The doc said this was fine, too. I never put 1st foods into her bottle though, when she was old enough for her 1st foods, she got them on the spoon to help teach her to eat. :)

I have done it b4 but my son is used to thick food because when he was born they put cereal in his bottle the only reason i did was because he was not eating it and he complained that he was still hungry I only did that a coouple of times.

It is really not recommended to add food to the bottle. Your baby will get too many calories AND not learn to eat properly.

Uhm...no. It's a choking hazard. If your baby can't spoon feed it's too early to introduce solids.

I've heard people putting cereal into their baby's bottles but Baby 1st foods???? You mean like baby carrots, peas, etc.? That I've never heard of that. Your are not supposed to do that. Feed them with a spoon.

Well all my kids got rice cereal in there bottles around three months. Mainly becasue they spit up so much. i cant say that it helped. If you want your child to sleep trhough the night and not wake to eat it will not help. They only sleep thorugh the night when they are mature enough no amount of food you give them before they go down will help.
