Did you get your daughters ears pierced? If so, at what age? If not, what were your reasons for not doing so?

I did not get my daughters ears pierced. I will not pierce them until she asks for them and she is old enough to take care of them. I had mine done at 9 and i think that is a good age to have them done. I don't think it is my choice to get her ears pierced for her, I know lots of people that don't have their ears pierced and don't want them done. its not my decision. it is her body.

Yes, I got my daughter's ears pierced after she turned 1. I am from india and its common to do so at that age and even earlier. Some communities there do so even when the baby is about 3 weeks old!.

My oldest daughter got her ears pierced for her first communion when she was almost 8 years old. She has done a great job being responsible for cleaning them twice a day and taking good care of her earrings. She was ready for this very grown up part of becoming a young lady.
I will wait until my other three daughter show signs of being responsible enough to take care of this on their own.

My daughter was 7 when she had hers done, and it was her choice to do so. I had mine done when i was 3. Everyones views on this are different. I would not do it until the child understands what it is.

I had my girls ears pierced when they were between 3 and 4 months old. My oldest is 2 now and she didn't even know they are there. She was young enough that she didnt fight me to care for them properly and they healed just fine. My youngest is almost 4 months and we did them as soon as she had her dtap shot. They are healing perfectly and I have no problem with her messing with them. Good luck and I hope this helps.

we did our daughter the same day as her second set of needles, we did it b.c we knew that she would have some medication due to the needles anyways so we wont have to worry about her being in any more pain. we also took oraljel and put it on her ears where they would be placing the earings so it would numb the skin - it work very well and she didnt even cry it was a wonderful experience - i was very shook at how well she did and how well they were done - we went to People Jewerlers they did both sides at the same time. I would highly recommend paying a little bit more and getting it done there,

Yes, We got them pierced at the age they could take care of them 15. One daughter kept good care of them and one didn't she has had to pay for the 2nd time so she learned to repect what she spent her money on.

I hate to see my 2 year old in pain from a little "boo boo", no way can I willingly inflict pain on her, even if it's just for a second!! When she decides she is ready and asks for them to be pierced I will gladly have them done for her, but not a moment before that!

I had my daughters ears pierced when she was 10 months old, after she'd had the last of her vaccinations. She is now 5yrs old and has never had any problems. She cried for a couple of seconds, more out of shock than pain. She loves her earrings .

Both my girls were around 8 yrs old when they got their ears pierced. I left it to they were that age because they didn't ask to get their ears pierced until then. I wasn't prepared to inflict pain on them without their having a say in it.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to get my daughter's ears pierced when she was a baby or wait until she asked me when she got older. My husband asked me when she was about 6 months old if we could get them done so he took her one day while I was at work. I did not mind him taking her because I knew she would cry. He said she was a little champ. She cried for a minute when they did it but after that she was good as gold. It was easy to clean & turn her ear rings. She didn't even know they were there. She is 3 1/2 now. We have never had one issue with them. Its like they're a part of her. She doesn't mind when I change them at all. I just tell her we're going to put in some pretty new ear rings & clean the ones she was wearing.

No. We chose not to put put our child thru a pain she didn't need and wouldn't have understood. Now that she is 5 she has asked if she can have them pierced, but we want her to understand it is going to hurt. My ears are pierced, and hers will be too, eventually.

Yes, Right after her 2 month shots. She was little so she didn't cry much and this way it becomes a normal thing for her to wear earings. She doesn't pull on them or try to take them off.

I waited until Grace was 9 years old and let her make the decision knowing the facts. I let her watch a few kids have theirs pierced and she realized it would hurt. She said it was worth it and she was willing to do the required cleaning every day. (I am an RN so of course I assisted!) However... since then, she has said several times she wish she had not had them done. She has very long hair and they get "tangled" in her hair frequently and pull on them. The got infected once, because she had posts in that were 14k gold, BUT they were not allowing air flow to the hole in the front and back. I was advised to put hoop (with a straight stick thru the ear and small hoop, not a complete circle) so they could breath, and clean them 3 times a day... they cleared right up. Again, she mentioned she wish she hadnt had them pierced. I offer to let her take them out and let them grow back and she says "no, one day I'll be glad I have them!" Hindsight, I wish we'd have waited until her 12-13th bday.
By they way.. I am VERY against having babies ears pierced!!! I think its prideful to have them done.. who are you doing it for, yourself?? I cringe when I see a selfish mom holding her baby down to let them put a needle in the tiny earlobe... seriously?? IF and only IF a child wants them done when she's able to make that kind of decision.... THEN have them done. Dont make the decision for them. :) My 2 cents worth. :)
Good luck with your decision..... :)

My daughter got her ears pierced when she was old enough to specifically ask for her ears to be pierced. My reason for waiting was that I wanted her immune system to be strong enough to so that she would not develop a metal allergy. She was 10 when her ears were pierced.

I got her ears pierced when she was 3 months old. After she got her 3 month vaccinations. I also got my 3rd hole.:) She was really good. She cried some but not much. Just like getting her shots. The first hole is easier. They don't expect it. The second was a little harder. Just bring a bottle with you to sooth her. Just don't give it to her until they are done. I also had no problem cleaning them or turning them. She is now 6months and some times after a bath I still clean them. Just in case. Good Luck!

Hi Ashley,
I am Aasha. I got my daughters ear's pierced when she was eight months old. I carried a thermos of ice because immediately after the piercing, the skin feels HOT. the moment it was done, I simply put the ice and turned it into an easy expeience for her. A couple of weeks later, replaced the studs with tiny, gold rings which would not get caught in material, while changing clothes. Its been easy...

My daughter is 3 I have not pierced her ears. Piercing of the flesh is an individual choice in my opinion. I have no problem with moms who pierce their babies ears, don't get me wrong, it's just not my choice. I pierced mine at the age of 10 when I wanted to, I'm going to let her decide.

I have 3 girls, my oldest is almost 6 and I haven't gotten any of them pierced because I don't need one more thing to take care of. My rule is that they can get them pierced when they are 12. By then, they should be old enough to take care of things on their own! I was 11 when I got mine done. I don't want them to get infected or close up and eventually have to do it again. (I realize they can get infected at 12, too) I just don't want it to be a terrible experience.

Someone asked if I got the babies ears done since I am new here I wasnt able to figure it out....nooo she is all dirt and rocks! I will hold to 13 then see if she can manage her ears first. I used a piercer for the others since they remove the skin instead of cram it to the side like a gun. I see alot did the 13...I guess all of our mom's were right.

I have 4 girls ages 23-1 yyr....I tried some different ideas but in the end mom was right, I wont let it on the baby until she is old enough to maintain them. infection is easy to come across...my oldest went thru a stage where you couldnt touch her ears..so did num 3 num 2 said heck no...so baby looses by default I say 12 or 13 is a great age and before then you are probably doing it for you not her!

Yes, at 6 months. This will also help them get used to having them so they won't bother them like they will if you wait until 2 or 3.

I got my daughter's ears pierced when she was 2 months old. She did great and holding her still was the most bothersome to her. They were never a problem and she never bothered them. She is now 2 1/2 and she hold nice and still when I change them. I couldnt imagine doing them at her age now, when they look so cute, as she would hate the pain and bother them, causing irritation and infection. I dont regret doing it at all:)

I had mine done when I was 5 as a birthday present. I think I will do the same with my daughter. She can decide when she's old enough if that's something she wants to do. I think it's just one more thing to worry about if you have a baby's ears pierced, so I wouldn't bother. Of course, I didn't have my son circumsized either! It's their body and they can decide when they're old enough.

My duaghters are not allowed to get their ears pierced until they turn 10. I feel at that age, they are able to take care of them. Plus this gives them something to look forward to, if they really want them.

No. Earrings are ornamental and not necessary until my girls are old enough to decide for themselves. My oldest is 7 and is showing a growing interest but so far hasn't asked for her ears to be pierced yet.

NO WAY! Ear piercings look awful on babies and toddlers! Really trashy in my opinion! Just put your girls in dresses if you want them to look girly! No need to be shoving needles through their ears and blonking a piece of jewelery in it!
Forcing our ideas of beauty on our children is cruel. They may not want their ears pierced but you have disregarded their bodily integrity and right to make decisions about what happens to their body and permanently altered it to suit you. They will be stuck with holes in the wrong place on ears for the rest of their life. Ears never stop growing by the way.

I'm not against piercings, i have had 13 different ones :D but i'm glad my mother waited til i was old enough to make the decision to get my ears pierced.
I won't be allowing piercings until my daughter is around 8 years old :D

I didn't purposely didn't read any other posts so i wouldn't intentionally offend anyone in particular lol :)

Yes, I did. In fact my husband was the one who took her to have it done. It was on a Sat. and she was with him. He had to make a run to the airport for his job. She mentioned she wanted her ears pierced. He called me and told me. I told him it was ok. I think she was somewhere between 5 and 7. Been a long time, she is 25 now! I got mine done when I was around 12 or 13. My Mom peirced them with a needle and thread and alcohol.

my daughters will wait till they ask for them. My step daughter already had hers done when I became her mom. Her BIOmom took her when she was like 6 month I think. They aren't straight and the older she gets the lower they are they definitely aren't in the center of her lope anymore. I feel it's best to wait.
