I have heard so many different things on this, is it ok to have Diet Soda during pregnancy? When I was pregnant with my first son 6 years ago it was not ok, but now I have heard it is ok to drink it in moderation. Im talking about 1 can a day.

Hmmm. I'd be weary of the aspartame, personally, regardless of being pregnant. The FDA and Health Canada have recommended dosages and claim in small amounts it's safe. I'm critical about any unnatural substances or additives and don't trust that consumers are being 100% protected from harmful substances or all of the potential effects are being disclosed or have been discovered. (ie: cigarettes). But I know not everyone shares my views.... that all said:

"How much aspartame am I allowed to consume per day?

Health Canada's recommendations regarding aspartame consumption are no different for pregnant women. They recommend an intake less than 40 mg aspartame per kg body weight per day. For example, a 130 lbs. woman (59kg) could drink 11.5 cans of diet coke and still be under the upper limit."

I had one soda a day sometimes during both my pregnancy's. First pregnancy was reg soda and second was diet soda. Caffeine in moderation is what my doctor told me.

No one needs any kind of soda any time for any reason! Just drink water. It's the best.

It is fine to drink diet soda while pregnant , I'm sure we have all indulged in something a little naughty but oh so good when we have been pregnant. ( I couldn't resist a soft serve from maccas every now and again, it was my ultimate weakness)

I think that should be fine. Look for caffine free diet soda. I think that's a little better for you. Honestly I drank coffee with caffine for at least the last 3 months of my pregnancy and my son is perfect. A little hyper but perfect.
