My almost 3 months old nephew finds it difficult to poo despite all the water he drinks. However, anytime he finally wants to release(which is like once in a week), everyone in the neighborhood knows because he crys so hard. I would like to know if this is just a phase or if there could be something wrong.

I supplemented with similac but essentially they are all the same except the specialty formulas for lactose intolerant babies. My daughter was primarily breastfed so she really only had one bottle of formula a day. Until 6 months formula or breastmilk are all he should be getting, by giving him water he filling up on nothing which could lead to weight issues. If you are still going to give water (which my daughter didn't get till 7 months) I would not give him more than an ounce or two within a 24 hour period, but like I said my kids didn't get water till after 6 months.

Meanwhile, i didn't know babies under 6 months shouldn't be drinking so much water. Please what quantity of water is acceptable on a daily basis?

Well, his mom's breast milk doesn't flow much. plus, i think the mother is also having issues with choosing a suitable formula for him at this age. Can you recommend any?

If he's not satisfied with breastmilk then you should be supplementing with formula. Babies under 6 months should not really be given water bevause of something called water toxicity in babies, if you google it you'll see the potential dangers. Why do you feel he's not satisfied with breastmilk though?

Thank Amy. He is breastfed. he is taking water because he doesn't ever get satisfied with just the breast milk. He is not being fed with any kind of solids.

3 months? You should not be giving him water. Is he breastfed or formula fed, if he's breastfed it's normal to go 10 days in between poops. If solids have been started I would stop them immediately.
