I had my third baby in january and was told by the surgeon that she wouldnt reccomend having any more babies as I had lots of scar tissue and bled a lot(due to 3 c sections). This was a little sad as I wanted more kids but I am more than happy with what I have(2 boys 1 girl) and dont want to risk them not having a mum for the sake of another baby. My husband had a vasectomy in April and he has had the all clear and we are safe to use no contraception. On the letter it also states that the vasectomy could fail after a few years...so Im not sure what to do! Should I get my tubes tied aswell just to be really sure or are the percentages so small not to worry. If it was just a case of falling pregnant then wouldnt worry but it could kill me!! And I dont want to have to terminate if it happened. So any advice or anyone else been there?? Thanks in advance for any help

It is exceedingly rare for a vasectomy to naturally reverse itself but it does happen. My old neighbors had his done and then 4 years later his ended up reversing itself naturally and along came baby #5. Your husband should get an annual check up just to be sure this doesn't happen. It is VERY RARE, I can't express that enough, but it does happen. I don't think it is something you need to overly worry about though.

As for the tubal. That is entirely up to you. If you want to be super safe and have your peace of mind completely then yes do it. It is your decision though. If you want to get a 2nd opinion by all means do so. From every friend I have that has had babies by C-sec though their doctors here (Canada) have always told them no more than three. It is major abdominal surgery and they are cutting through your muscle tissue, uterus, etc. It becomes harder each time for your body to heal. Doctors everywhere have different opinions though it seems.

Second opinion! I'm not a doctor, or a health care professional (yet) but, there are many moms who have been told similar stories, who (despite their best efforts) got pregnant again and had a healthy pregnancy, baby, and mommy. Now delivery would most likely be difficult, but because you would most likely be doing another C-section, you would already be in the hospital with a doctor who knows your condition and all the possible outcomes, and that doctor in return would be prepared for the obstacles at hand. SO you may not have to worry about a possible termination.

Now since your husband has received the okay from the Doc post vasectomy, you are good to go for a good while, but since there is concern, you could have your husband get it checked along with his annual screenings. You could also go on birth control, there are many varieties to choose from, there should be one out there that fits you best :D

I would guess there have been very few that have failed after several years and the doctor includes that statement in his/her letter as protection in the rare event it does fail. Maybe you could get your husband to call his doctor and find out what the doctor's failure rate is. Knowing that information might make it easier for you to decide if you want to undergo surgery. Also, there is a less invasive procedure out there that blocks your tubes. The procedure is called Essure that has little to no recovery time. Your ob/gyn should be able to give you more information on it and help you decide if it is right for you.
