Do you get comments about your child being a redhead?

My daughter is 11 and has lovely tones of red hair- mixture of blondes and reds, it's amazing when the sun shines on it.
She would like to dye her hair black! Huh!
So far I've been able to put her off from doing so, distracting her by offering her a new hair style or a home made face mask or getting our nails done, lol.
She has had old men say to her, 'did your mum leave you out in the rain to make your hair rusty?'
Ah well! Some people! Mostly she gets compliments, and is now starting to catch some boys attention. So it's certainly not a hindrince in any way. What's better than beautiful hair, good looks and a fiery personality! ;)

I have four children and my oldest two have red hair. The only red hair in the family goes back to my grandmother. I have never had a rude comment at all...but we ALWAYS - at least once daily - have someone comment nicely on their hair. They love it and know that they have something special. They are 9 and 10. The only downside to it is that my 5 year girl has blonde hair and always looks at me when the older girls are getting comments like she wonders why she doesn't get the compliments too. My son is 3 and his hair is light brown and he couldn't care less about any of it ;)

my oldest started off with ginger hair and I loved it from day one (even with the comments about him being the post mans baby because neither me or my husbant have red hair!!!!) then he got to about 18 months it started to change, it is now a light brownish colour!! the funny thing is when you cut his hair short he has two little patches of his natural gorgeous red hair come through! (immagine my dicust when I was then accused of bleaching my babies hair!!! LOL!)



but now I am excited to say my third little man is a red head!!! (well ginger any way!!) we are hoping this time it wont change! our whole family love his hair!!! he is gingy boy to most of the adults close to him and his now 9 year old brother (the chaged red head (the middle one has blonde tight curls!) takes great joy in telling ever one that his baby brother is the ginger ninja!!!!!!

I am a red head and i LOVE it. iI don't have to dye it ever and i get compliments all the time, Go the ranga babies!!!!..i am a little disappointed my two offspring turned out to be blondies.

For some reason it seems that in the U.K. there's this really weird prejudice against redheads. I really don't get it. Here in Canada red hair is considered very attractive on women, and isn't considered a drawback on men. My hair is red and I always get tons of compliments on it. My baby's hair is blonde with a bit of a strawberry tinge to it.

And Charlene, I hope your mom told that rude old bird to get stuffed! What a thing to say to a little girl!

We have one blonde, one with black hair, 2 with brunette and one redhead. When people comment on our redhead's hair, it really makes me angry when they say, "oh, she has such pretty blonde hair!" and I correct them and say, "it's red" and they go on to say, "no, it isn't". Excuse me? I think I know my colors! There is NO doubt.

I'll never forget this: When I was around five or six, my mom, my two younger sisters (one blonde, around 2or3, the other brunette,4or5) and myself were at the grocery store when some old bird walked over to us and started gushing about my sister's blonde hair. She was just going on and on like 'Ohhhh you have such beautiful snow white hair! All the little boys are just going to love you! You have angel hair!'. Then she looked at my brunette sister and said 'Yours is pretty plain, but you're cute.' and then she looked at me and said 'Awww.. you poor thing. It's just a sin that you are stuck with that awful red hair. I hope you don't get picked on too much'. What a terrible thing to say to anyone!! ESPECIALLY a child!! I was so upset that day. And I used to get picked on in Elementary school.. I was one of only three redheads in the WHOLE school! BUT now everyone tells me that they love my beautiful red hair and one of my mom's friends has been trying for years to get my shade of red.

I'm actually kind of disappointed because I thought for sure my daughter was going to have red hair, but as of now it seems closer to brunette. :(

Helen that is awful.

Neither my husband or I have red hair, but when my daughter was born people began mumbling "Where did the baby get RED hair from?"

From a recessive gene that my husband and I are both carriers of!

My husband is ginger, when i was pregnant i got haha ur going to have a ginge kid so many times, i always said whats the different if she had blond or brown hair why would it ever be a problem being ginger its just a colour, and i got god i hope i dont have ginger kids, it really winds me up, now my daughter is here she has a tinge of ginger with blond. someone actually told her she was going to get bullied in school (shes bloody 5months old)
