For those mom's who have a video monitor, what do you think of the price vs. value?
I'm about to become a mom of 2 and because they'll be sharing a room soon I'd like to invest in some peace of mind for bedtime. I'm worried my 4yr old will try to pick up the baby or give her a blankie :/ Then again, at around $230 for the one I want, I'd hate to find out I fell for another of those first time mommy gimmicks. What do you think?

Personally I think having a video monitor would end up driving me mad. I can picture myself sitting in bed, wide awake at 3:30 in the morning, staring at the screen looking for signs that my little one is still breathing. In fact, even with the regular baby monitor I found myself doing that on more than one occasion, listening intently for any little sound. If I didn't hear anything for more than half a minute, I'd run in to check on him.
However, if your children are going to be sharing a room, I can definitely see the benefits. With a monitor, you wouldn't have to risk waking either your 4 year old or your baby when you check on them in the middle of the night. With a quick glance you can see if your 4 year old has decided that the baby needs 20 stuffed animals to keep him company, or if he is trying to scale the sides of the crib to draw on babies face with magic marker.
So, if you are not as paranoid as I am, and you feel that it would give you some peace of mind, I say go for it.
I would think that it would come in handy as they get older too, you can move it into the playroom and keep an eye on them while you are cooking dinner.

I never even thought of getting her a movement monitor, I thought they were for a preemies. My son never used one and we never had that problem. He slept in a bassinet until he was 4wks then we moved him to his crib in his room.

me personally i didnt need a video monitor, i did buy an angelcare sound and movement monitor with two parent receiver units and it was the best money i ever spent. I am also sure it saved my sons life when he was only weeks old, because if the sensor pad doesnt detect movement (breathing) for around 20seconds, an alarm sounds. This alarm woke my baby enough for him to start breathing again. BEST MONEY EVER SPENT!!!
