Do you Like to use Pullups??

I work in daycare and most of us do not like pull=ups. The children rely on them as a diaper. There are going to be accidents when training your child. When going out shoping have lots of spare underwear, pants/shorts, socks and shoes. Also bring along plastic bags to put soiled clothes in. I used flushable wipes when my son was training. They were easier if we were out somewhere-I didn't have to feel bad about lesving poopy wipes in a garbage can somewhere and they work much better than dry toilet paper.

i have 3 kids and put mine in pull ups only at night so if they woke up and needed to go potty they could do it easier than w/a diaper, but they are more expensive and i dont really think theyre worth it. i would suggest making your son pee before you leave the house, ask again when you arrive at your destination and ask while youre out and about. all my children where totally potty trained by the time they were 3. also its a good idea to cut bk on the liquids. if youre going to be gone for an hour or so, leave the sippy at home.

I used them with both of my boys they are able to feel when its trying to get wet and it makes them feel cold on their pee pee so they stop and go on the potty. I still have to use them for my 7 yr old he has problems waking up at night sometimes hes dry and sometimes hes not.

no maam, the are just like pampers i never bought my kids pull ups we left pampers to panties. they r going to just wet them up to and good luck

I think pullups are for the convenience of the mother and really do nothing to help kids potty train. I wouldn't say that they necessarily KEEP THEM from potty training but they certainly are no incentive to learn. I used them when we were out somewhere during the early phase of potty training and during the night. All of my children learned to poo in the potty LONG before they peed in the potty and frequently had accidents when we were out somewhere or during the night. It's a lot easier to change pullups than to wash sheets or to deal with pee-soaked clothes on an outing. Because of the age difference of my children, I usually had one potty training and a newborn at the same time. I did what I had to do to keep my sanity and, of course, they eventually learn to use the potty no matter what you do so I don't regret it.

Pullups are diapers that just drain your pocketbook faster. They still give your child an excuse to potty in his pants.



We EC, so we typically use gerber training pants. They're packed with batting in the crotch so they slow a stream of urine- but your child won't be able to ignore the wetness, and you'll know as soon as he goes.



Then we make sure to use timing and signals to get our kids to go on the potty.

Pull ups just feel like diapers to kids and they are very expensive. NOT WORTH IT! Of course I use cloth diapers anyway.

I would take your son on short trips when you can manage and put him in some thicker training pants so that should he wet himself, he will definitely feel the wet (which he wouldn't in Pull ups) but the thicker underwear would absorb a lot of it. You could also bring along his little potty so that if he needs to go he has somewhere "familiar" to go (some kids just don't like strange potties). A lot of people I know have done that with no problems.

If none of this works I'd just stick with diapers, especially on longer outings.

I have three children and never understood the purpose of pullups. I did try them with one of my kids, I think the first and she used it as a diaper and it was a mess trying to get those things off with poop in it. I used diapers and then went straight to underwear with the other two. We worked at potty training at home and until they were ready they wore diapers out and about. It was a very quick transition but it was done when they were ready. I think pullups prolong things but that's just my opinion. I agree with Tamara in that they need to be uncomfortable and wet to get them thinking about going in the toilet instead of their pants. I've even allowed them to spend sometime playing in the house with no pants on because then they really don't have anywhere to go but the toilet. This is of course done after they've been sat on the toilet, know where it is, and know what it is for. Some people probably would be completely grossed out with that but sometimes they are ready and need a little help realizing it and pullups weren't going to do it for my kids.

I tried pull ups on my first born and he thought of them as diapers still. I did not use pull ups on any of the 3 after him. I bought real underwear, they need to be able to feel the wetness and discomfort on the skin that having an accident can cause. Although it can be messy as well as irritating to the trainer, it helps the trainee progress faster. They won't like that mess to long. Just be sure to carry extra sets of clothes and shoes and go the the fabric store and get some water proof material to put in the carseat, on the sofa and the bed. Most important allow them to sleep in the undies too. One more thing limit their liquid intake and have a cut off time of about 2 hours before bedtime. (it takes 1 hour for that last sip to reach your kidneys) Good Luck!

My son calls pullups diapers and treated them as such when we started training him so we used training underwear with plastic covers almost exclusively.



For my daughter, we decided to go the same route and toilet training on our final attempt with her went pretty smoothly without any pullups until we went on a camping trip. We got them for her to sleep in at night although most nights she is dry. She was dry every single night and after a couple daytime accidents b/c the toilet was a ways away from the campsite, Daddy thought we'd better save the messes and use the pullups during the day. I was very pleased that she didn't treat them like diapers but continued to ask to go to the toilet.



Each kid is different. My son would probably be soiling his pants even today if we had gone the pullups route... but my daughter, well, we could have saved some very messy cleanups and she still probably would have toilet trained w/o them.

I loved pull-ups but my son wasn't wearing underwear which was a big incentive for him to get rid of the pull-ups because he thought it was a big deal to get to wear "big boy underwear",with scooby-doo of course!

Pull ups are supposed to be a transition from diapers to underwear. My son decided he didn't want to wear diapers any more so he is in pull ups but still not ready to use the toilet. Which is SUPER annoying since they are considerably more expensive! I would presume that if he is using the toilet underwear is great, if you are out in public pull ups probably would help him feel less like a baby?
