I'm Chiricahua Apache and although our USA is a melting pot of cultures,I'm talking about the IILEGALS who come here demanding Freebies! I respect the ones who just want to work, earn a decent wage and live feely. Those ILLEGALS demanding Free Medical,Education etc make my blood boil,as our LEGAL Citizens are not treated as well as those making their demands. That's why some people are opposed to the thought of speaking Spanish. I speak Spanish and my daughter speaks German.

Thanks Mayra, both my kids are trying to carry on the tradition with their children, too. They also try to observe as much as possible holidays from both cultures.

Heidi:
The above is supposed to say--In many cases, you can adjust Google so that it will translate the site into any language that you want. My German is still not as good as it was years ago. Please, forgive any mistakes that I have made.
In many cases, if you left click on the tool button on your on line tool bar, it will have a section that you can set for translation or you can cut and paste some text that you want to translate without having to open up another tab to go to a translation program.
Hope this helps.

I totally agree because the translations seem to have more than one origin, and sometimes they aren't even complete. My high school years were in the late 90's and even when I visited Spain right after H.S. I was still lost!

The whole "illegal" immigrants argument is a little much in my opinion. We are All immigrants unless our parents are of 100% Native American descent. For those of you so apposed to speaking Spanish, Why? Are you speaking your native tongue? I'm being reminded of some unspoken biases when I read some of the responses.........

I think everyone should be proud to speak Spanish, and the same goes for German, English and Russian. However, I have seen Hispanics in my community have to stop hanging out with their high school friends that they like because they do not speak Spanish. I have seen Quebec break away form Canada for similar reasons. I remember the bible story of the tower of babel sp? how we all went our separate ways. Professional friends taking on a Spanish or English only speaking wife who had to change friends.
For some learning a new language is impossible, for some its easier. In any case I still think it should be mandatory to learn three languages in kindergarten. I think it would Unite us as a nation.

I think I can understand why some people get so hot under the collar about this. It is an issue not because some people speak Spanish or not. Speaking two languages is wonderful.
Its because a portion of Mexicans choose to come here, not really wanting to become American. They instead want to bring their country into ours and don't want to adapt into Americans, in the sense that for instance in El Paso, if you dont speak Spanish you cant get a job. And many professionals have moved out of there, claiming it is the most language prejudice place in the world.
I am not sure why but I know earlier on in America, Germans, Spanish, Italians ect.. thought it was important to Unite into one language and made huge efforts to do so. I just find it hard when I can see how strongly language segregates peoples. I think we should either all comunicate with three languages starting in Kindergarten or keep it to one.

No, I am an American and I speak English. When my grandparents came here in the early 1900's, they met taking night courses learning to speak English. I am all for speaking as many languages as humanly possible. Speak Spanish, but speak English, too, if you live in America.

I'm an American and I don't understand why so many people in the states are so against learning another language. Most countries outside of ours are required to learn English. Where did so many of us take on such a holier than thou attitude that we are too good to learn another language. It's ridiculous,
