Depends on the 4-year-old.

I can't even get my 2 year old to nap some days and when she does she's up till 10:30 at night! My oldest gave up his nap at around 2, it depends on the kid really but if bedtime has become a struggle it's probably time to give it up.

My 4 year old still takes a 2 hour nap every afternoon.

depends on the kid. I personally think a 4 year old would benefit from one, or at least a 'quiet time'- maybe an hour in his room by himself reading or coloring. Mommy may need it too ;)

Actually, no, a 4 year old doesn't necessarily need a nap. It really is an individual thing, and also depends on many things. By the age of 4, many kids have given up their naps and, in fact, if they had them, would probably drive their parent mad by not going to bed at an appropriate time at night. At this age, they need about 10-12 hours sleep a day, and if he is getting that at night, then that is possibly enough. Rest time, however, can be important (as in sitting and doing quiet activities).
So does "a" 4 year old NEED naps"? No. Does "this particular" 4 year old need naps? Well, really, that is something only his parents can determine.

Some do, some don't Some kids need a nap on some days only (like really busy days) while other kids need a nap every day. Each child is different.
