Hi,
My step son is 4 years old and is mildly Autistic. He does not speak yet, he can say words but rarely in context, he mostly repeats what he hears. He will potty in the big potty if we prompt him but he cannot tell us when he has to go. He goes willingly though if we say it's time to go potty. He will hide to poop and doesn't like it on him, which gets really gross if we don't catch it right away. We often have dry pull ups when we take him potty. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is there a good way to get him to let us know when he has to go? Rewards don't work because he doesn't understand the concept. I think he is ready , the verbal ability and comprehension just isn't there for him. I would appreciate any advice I can get.
Thanks,
Jenny
