Does anyone have a kid allergic to cats, and what do the symptoms look like?

Also remember that a food allergy ( example: milk allergy) can have some similar symptoms. My son had stuffy nose and cough for a year before I realized it was a dairy allergy. Also had eczema and once we cut out all dairy all symptoms went away. I would suggest allergy testing. It's quick and easy and will answer what you prob already feel in your heart. Good luck momma

I know plenty of people who have a pet allergy and manage to continue to keep pets. Cleanliness is the best remedy. It is often the dander caused by the saliva in the cats' coats, and not the cats themselves, that causes allergies to flare up. If at all possible, don't let the cats into your child's room, to keep exposure to pet hair and saliva to a minimum. You may also need to vacuum and de-fur your furniture more frequently too. I would also suggest looking into alternative explanations for the cough, as there could be a number of other allergens in your home that could be causing irritation (everything from mold to chemicals). Coughs aren't normally a part of an allergic reaction by themselves, as often skin irritations or watery eyes develop in tandem, so if you haven't, discuss your concerns with your pediatrician and get his/her take on the issue.

Hey There, I have a 4 year old son, who is allergic to cats, like his father, and he starts off with red watery eyes and itchy all over, then symptoms like; runny nose, sneezing, (not so much coughing though.) start to occur, it last for about 24hours, and he is fine the next day.

I coughed because of it when I was living with my parents and they had cats. It was basically like having a cold all the time. Any kind of sinus irritation and a cough and itchy, dry feeling throat.

My daughter is and she gets a horrible cough, almost sounds like she has a cold because her nose gets stuffy, voice gets scratchy. We actually thought she got a cold at her grandparents. Now she is 4 and she also gets swollen,itchy eyes, and sometimes gets itchy all over.

Thank you so much guys!! I have to say I'm relieved to hear your answers, all she has is the cough. I would think it would be worse if she was allergic to the cats, right? I just don't want to break up our little family! :( She loves the kitties! I'm pretty convinced that it's daycare. I'm having a friend babysit her at home starting next week, and hopefully that will take care of the problem. But I'm glad that it doesn't sound like cat allergies, at least so far, and she's so little to give an allergy test too! Poor baby, I just want her to get better!!

I am allergic to cats and when I was younger my parents always gave my childrens benedryll. Might knock him out but it helps alot if hes anything like me (sneezing like crazy, itchy/watery eyes/red, runny nose

yes! we had to get rid of my 2 kids!!! runny nose, ears infections constantly because of the drip, dark/lite circles under their eyes...little pimples on their face..tiny tiny....my Ethan was soooo bad! and of course the sneezing.

itchy eyes, swollen eyes, hives, skin rash are all primary indicators of allergies.

hi. Myself and my kids are reactions to cats.. I find everyone ifs different. my son finds after being around a cat hes breathing changes.. finds it hard to breath... You can have itchy eyes. or a running eye, rash.

My son breaks out in Hives really bad. He was extremely sick with cold/flu like symptoms and an ear infection that wouldn't clear up. We took him into the Dr. and finally after months of medication for the symptoms of flu/cold they did a skin test and found out he is extremely allergic to cats and pigweed grass. Try keeping a football loving boy out of grass that grows in our area~ The cat we ended up consigning out to the local SPCA and he went to an awesome home. However, it is really hard when he want's to do a sleepover and the friend has a cat. I also have to tell the school that he cannot be around anyone that has a cat *sitting next to in class*

Yes i do! My son and daughter plus myself are allergic to cats. Eyes can puff up,tear and itch as well as sneezing and trouble breathing. None of us have coughed but thats not to say that cant happen.
