Does anyone have a suggestion on what baby carrier to buy? eg. baby bjorn or baby wrap?

I disagree. I have used a babybjorn for about 3 years and thought it was wonderful UNTIL I was given an ergobaby. IMO they are the best.

i have tried both...baby bjorn for my first little girl....i didnt like it that much but my partner had ablsolutely no problems...and the bub was happy in it to. And with the second, i have tried the wrap/sling...i LOVE this product. I have found that it doesnt hurt my back, my little girl absolutely loves going in it, from going to the shops to just doing work around the house. I would recommend trying them with your bub...see what you and her like. But my personal choice is the wrap/sling :) hope that helps a little :)

I second Robin McCray's post. I got info about making a wrap and how to tie it from mamatoto.org. It's not hard and you don't have to sew anything. Go get five yards of cotton knit or cotton jersey. For $40 dollars I made three and my son loves it. He falls asleep in an instant and stays asleep for hours. I know lots of moms who also swear by this type of wrap/baby wearing. Also since it is wrapped around you it is very comfortable and infinitely adjustable. Good luck. P.S. Baby wearing has shown a reduction in levels of infant sleep apnea.

I found the Bjorn carrier really uncomfortable.  One of my friends had the Mobi Wrap which she loved because you can make it fit you no matter what size you are, but I don't see how the wrap would work once the baby is older.  I've also heard good things about the Ergo because you can wear the child in front or in back, which can be great when you needs your hands free!

I loved the baby bjorn front pack until my boys got to be about 20#, then it started hurting my back. We then got a beco (becobaby.com) and they go up to 40# very comfortably in the front, on the hip, or on the back. We LOVE it! My boys love it, too. I have heard the wrap people say that theirs are better for pelvic development, but I have never read a study proving that. They may be out there, I have just never seen one. I have friends that use wraps, and swear by them. Good luck! Would love to hear what you decide.

We've pretty much tried them all, and I would recommend a wrap or a mei tai. They hold your baby's legs and hips in a better position for joint development, with less strain on baby's crotch. The wraps take a little extra practice, but I've found they're comfortable for longer, even for me. My husband really liked the Jeep frontpack (same as the Baby Bjorn, but it was half the price), but now uses the wrap if we're out with our toddler for a long period of time, since he outgrew the front pack.

I can't say from personal experience, but I've also heard lots of parents love the Ergo Baby Carrier. It's as easy as a Baby Bjorn style carrier, but supposed to be more comfy for parents and babies. Good luck finding a carrier that's right for you.

I have an ergobaby carrier. I have used it with my 8 month old since birth. It is extremely comfortable and secure for the baby. He loves it. You can find it online.

there is a great website called www.thebabywearer.com that has a lot of great info about different types of carriers.  wraps are actually better for baby b/c of the way they distribute baby's weight so that there is not pressure put on the baby's hips and pelvis that could cause problems with growth and development.  baby bjorn/snugglis and carriers similar to those can actually be bad b/c of the way the baby is supported right under the crotch causing a signigicant amount of pressure on the baby's pelvis and hips... there are other carriers out there that secure the baby in more of a sitting position instead of having them hang there with their legs dangling like with a bjorn.  you could probably google and find out more if you'd like... the baby wearer has a wealth of information though.  I recommend something like beco or ergo.  google them to find out more, or look for reviews on the baby wearer.  good luck!

I don't recommend buying either before you try it out with your little lady. I have friends that swear by one or the other, but I found it all depends on your kid. I borrowed one of each from a friend and found the bjorn worked best for us, but after we bought a really good one ($140) ....we only used it 3 times:(
