Does anyone have any good tips about potty training at night?

To all the Sweet Moms!!!!!! Relax when it comes to potty training. Boys are the most difficult to potty train. To be honest I don't think they ever get potty trained...Just check your husbands shorts...if they don't have tracks of some kind...then they are rare. lol Little guys get caught up playing and don't want to give it up to go to the bathroom...their pants is the toilet. ;-) Suggestions: 1. Make potty time a fun time. Let your little one take you to the potty and then you take them. 2. allow them to sit on their potty chair while they watch something on tv or dvd. 3. Sitting them on the potty and running water always helped my children go pee pee. 4. My husband and I use to wake our children up in the middle of the night and put them on the potty. Whatever you do...remain calm and patient..because when they are ready to be potty broken...it will happen.

we had taken my stepdaughter to the bathroom in the middle of the night too but she started to depend on it so we woke her up and made sure she was awake.. we'd talk to her and make sure she answers back. if she wasn't fully awake she had no idea what she was doing. she would forget to pull her pants down it seemed like she was still asleep so once we woke her up for a few months she got up in the night to go to the bathroom and has ever since

Several of my friends have suggested not to make a big deal out of it. Boys tend to stop bed wetting later than girls. Since he is not older and spending the night at friends houses, there should be no problem with putting a pull-up on him. My friends kept the pull up on their children until the pull-up started to be dry in the morning and then switched to pants. They didn't rush it. I would not make your child feel like he has done something wrong. Potty training is difficult for all involved but you don't want him to feel like he has done something wrong, when really he doesn't have control just yet. Give it time and most of all be positive.

My suggestion is to take him to the potty before bed, again at 12 midnight and again at 5am. Also limit his fluid intake before bedtime. I worked with my son who is now 4 making 5 when he was 3. I was tired, but this really worked. However, every now and then, about once every 3 to 5 months he may have an accident. I hope this works! Good luck! Baron's Mom

it could be that he sleeps too heavy. there is a company that can come help you called Pacific International. it is not cheap but they help many people even adults. we did this with one of our sons. they had him drink water before bed and then we trained him to recognize the signals and wake up to use the restroom during the night.

I AGREE WITH THE OTHER MOMS WHAT I DID WAS TOOK MY DAUGHTER TO THE BATHROOM EVERY HOUR!!!! TIRESOME I KNOW BUT IT WORKS SHES BEEN POTTY TRAINED SINCE SHE WAS 2

One of my daughters was like that and we tried everything so I thought and finally the doctor said wake her up every 2 hours and take her to the bathroom so we did and it took about a month but she started getting up and going during the night.Just a thought and it really takes some time to get back to normal after doing it that way.

my son never had this problem, but i will tell you what we did when potty training started. he didnt like underwear so he wanted to just go "kamando" ( just no underwear under his cloths) so we did the same thing at night. we didnt put a diaper back on him at night. and he never had an accident at night!

I just talked to my pediatrician about this and she said it is normal for children to have this problem until around 8 years old. This seems a bit old to me, but I know all children are different. I agree...limit the fluid intake before bed and if make sure they go right before bed. If they wake up, try to have them use the bathroom again.

Hello! I managed to get my daughter dry day and night by the age of 2.5. What worked for us is that we made her go to the toilet before bed, then we would pick her up when we went to bed and put her on the loo - she would literally wee in her sleep. And then if i work for the baby in the middle of the night I would take her again. Within a couple of months we only needed to take her when we went to bed. I still do that (she is 4 now) if I know she has had a big drink late in the evening, but genereally now she just needs to have a wee before bed. Godd luck and hang in there it will come right.

My daughter was hard to night train also and what finally worked for us (after asking the pediatrician) was limiting her liquid intake before bed like you're already doing (we did it 45 minutes before bed) I or my husband (depending on who was awake latest) would get her up to go and potty right before we went to bed. After a few weeks she had a dry bed. She still gets up to potty in the night around the same time every night and she's 18, LOL. Just try to keep your frustration to yourself in front of him and keep an understanding attitude when it comes to this. Some bladders are smaller than others, my daughter calls me biddy bladder, LOL. I know that children's bladders grow at different rates and there are more than a few children out there that have night time accidents up into their teens. I think the best bet is pull-ups, then nobody's uncomfortable and no messes to clean up. :)

I don't know what time he eats dinner compared to what time he goes to bed. This is just an idea... but if it's very close together he may just have a happy full belly and is very sound asleep. (like we do after Thankgiving, lol) Other than that, the other 2 moms sound like they have great ideas!

Try leaving the bathroom light on and/or maybe getting up in the middle of the night to take him to the potty???

I haven't had this problem myself but a few of my friend have had to take drastic measures to help. One was an alarm the you hook up to your child and it vibrates and beeps if they wet the bed to get them used to waking up when they have to go. others have had to get a prescription for their child. But, at 4 yrs I wouldnt be too concerned. I found that one thing that helped my kids was taking the sheets off their beds. It doesn't allow for such a restful sleep and they are more likely to wake up. Of course trying this, you want to make sure that you have the carpet cleaner handy just in case it doesn't work.
