does anyone have any suggestions for diaper pails?

I have the Diaper Champ and I find it really easy to use.  I don't like the diaper genie because it individually wraps each diaper.  What a waste...especially when they're only wet diapers plus you have to buy refills for them.  Although I DO use disposable diapers so I guess I'm a bit of an environmental hypocrite lol.  The champ is good for containing the smell of wet diapers (ie you never have to open the lid), and like Jessica I keep a small pail OUTSIDE the back door for dirty diapers.

I find recycling bread bags and other small bags is a good way.Put the nappy in tie a not in it and put it in the rubbish out side if you can.

I use wal-mart/target sacks.. I usually double bag it and then throw it in the trash can out in the garage in a trash can that has a lid. I am a daycare provider with 5 kids in diapers so we have lots of dirty diapers around here. I tried lots of diaper pails over the years - but this was definitely the cheapest route and the least smelly route. good luck!

I never used one. Instead I used the scented diaper bags (dollar stores carry them) or pet bags and just through the poopy ones in the regular trash. We take our trash out pretty regularly so the smell was never an issue.

I have used the Diaper Genie for almost three years and through two babies. Never ws smelly and well..I wouldn't have kept it if it didn't work so well.

I used a diaper champ and loved to use the kitchen garbage bags, but it started to stink really bad. Now I use the Diaper Genie and LOVE it. This is much better to keep the stink in. I have twins and go through alot of diapers everyday so it has been nice to walk into their room and not get that lovely wiff. It is worth the extra expense of the refill bags. Good luck!

We have the Daiper Genie II and it has been a lifesaver. I have no complaints about the device, it's not smelly, the refills are like $ 5 at Walmart. The only problem I've had is that my son is a "Heavy" wetter...so I have to push squishy diapers down the Genie shoot. What I do is wrap the diaper in a grocery bag and then push it down the Genie shoot. Viola....

We all know that diaper genies start to smell after awhile, which is the same with any closed container. But closed containers have benefits, like keeping the dog from eatting Jr. latest surprise. I currently use a small trash can that has a lid and spray it down with Lysole every time I empty it, which is every 5-6 diapers. Some parents have found that their diaper genies don't smell as strong with a good soaking once a week in bleach. If you would like to avoid strong chemicals, distilled vinegar has been known to take care of bad oders.

i just liked the diaper champ bc it just used regular kitchen trash bags...you didnt have to buy expensive refills.  it was good with the odor issue also.

We just use a small trash can with a push button lid - I keep a charcoal filter taped to the lid to help with the odor, but even without it the smell isn't bad. irs better than my friends diaper genie and easier to empty - plus a lot cheaper!

I used a small (about 4 gal size) regular lidded trashcan made my Simple Human. I used a regular plastic bag to line it and the lid has a rubber seal so I found that smells did not leak out. I think the key is to not let dirty diapers stay in there too long and empty regularly (with newborns on a daily basis, maybe 2x a day). My issue with the Diaper Genies and Champs is that they hold a lot of diapers and if diapers sit in there long enough, they will stink no matter what.

The GEnie II is our salvation. I have three in diapers and it does the trick. Its easy and the refills are easily available. They even sell them at BJ's for cheaper.

I have the diaper genie elite, its the newest one out. I like it b/c its easy to use. You can't smell it either unless you open the top. I put a little stick up air freshner on the inside and it seems to be working.

I didn't use a diaper pail for disposable diapers, but the diaper champ is practical and easy to use. For cloth diapers I  used a rubbermaid container (I guess it would be kind of like a pet food one) with a tight fitting lid. I lined it with a bag, usually a plastic shooping bag and on wash day I could just pull the bag out and invert it into the washer. good luck!

I keep the bags the newspaper comes in for on the go and a trash can outside the back door for home.  I had a diaper genie with my first son and the thing always stunk anyway so I figured this time around I'll just keep the stink outside!
