Does anyone in the uk have a nanny

At the moment i have family looking after my little boy but they are about to move away. There are no childminders and only an awful day nursery near us so i think a nanny is my only option. What are your experiences of nannies (good and bad) how much do they cost (will need at least 40 hours a week)

Quoting Helen:I have 2 children and they have both been in daycare.  My personal opinion is there is safety in numbers.  The more people around, the less likely something bad is going to happen.  Good luck with your search!

Hi Helen,

I live in Galway, Ireland. There is no au-pair visa available here, so you are a better off in Britain. I have 3 children under six and because childminding is very expensive here (3 times more expensive than a mortgage) we are using www.greataupair.com, which is a great way to get a nanny or an au-pair. We have been with this website for 5 years now and we are very happy with the results. You have a chance to get to know the nanny (au-pair) trough loads of e-mails back and forth. Agree on pay and all the necessary rules. There is no agency fee! The only fee we pay is some 60 Euro to join the website to unlock the personal details. You have a great advantage in Britain that you don’t have to choose just from EU countries. Au-pair visa is available to many countries and it is issued for two years.
