About 2 years ago I opend my own In home Childcare so that I could saty home with my thne 1 year old. I currently have 4 kids I watch and really enjoy it. It pays well as you make the price etc. If you have question or are intrested let me know. ~Cassidy

I'm not working yet, haven't finished the course, but there are a few sites I've found that seem to be the best ones to find work. It will depend if you are in Canada or the States though. Here are a couple of links that might help:

There are also a number of companies that hire transcriptionists. If you are thinking of just freelancing, you could try www.guru.com, www.elance.com, or www.shelance.com

If you are thinking about going with a company that hires transcriptionists to work from home, here are some of the ones I have found: Accentus, MedQuist, StenTel (there are way more but those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head).

The only thing I can suggest is just keep looking and research well. Good luck :)

Have you thought about Avon Products? I love it! It's been a great source of income for me for the past 3-1/2 years! To sign up, it's a $10 fee and you'll need to meet someone face to face to do it.. I've never looked back..

The investment is a little much, but I have friends that have purchased embroidary equipment (everything done on computer these days) and have done well. One friend is a stay at home/home schooling Mom..she makes the cutest gifts and does personal orders..

I work ffor a company called West. I have been there a year now. You take incoming phone calls. Depending on the lines that or hiring there are several to choose from. I work on where people call in to order free infomation. They pay min wage or 15 cents per min whick every is higher. You can check it out at www.west.com. I also was having a fit trying to think of something I could do from home that wasn't a scam or pyramid marketing or junk like that. I had thought about training to become a Medical Transcriptionist several years ago and simply did not have the money to take the course.

When I had my daughter, I did some more research and found some wonderful things about Medical Transcription, plus a lot of the job sites and and government job trends show that there is a high need for skilled transcriptionists.

I'm about half-way through the Medical Transcription course from Canscribe (CareerStep in the US), and have to say it's worth the course fee. Looks like I'll have good prospects once I'm done.

You could also look at freelancing, there are a couple of sites that allow you to do that - Guru.com, Elance.com, shelance.com -- it's worth looking into.

Plus, think of it this way - if you work from home you have no daycare costs and no commuting costs :)

I've been working from home since my second was born in 2002 and love it! There are so many things you can do... and a huge amount of moms who are successfully running their own businesses. I have found a great way to get into working at home online is by becoming a virtual assistant (VA) - you can learn more from www.shelancers.com - a directory of moms that offer services to others... think about your skill sets and you can be on that directory too! Or, there is loads of money to be made with blogging! I just found johncow.com and am overwhelmed with the amount of free information about how to build a business around blogging (and, believe me - moms LOVE to blog). Another resource for helping moms build a business from home is www.sparkplugging.com -- these are all legitimate resources that offer very valuable information for free! Chantel Dont sell your self short. Of corse you have Skills! Your a woman ;-) We can do and become anything. Make a cup of tea, sit back relax with a pencil and paper and jot jot jot.

What did before you were a mommy, and all the things you do now are skills. Give it up to a higher power if it wont come to you. Foccus on the fact that you want to find a way to be able to stay home and raise your baby while helping your partner with the finances. And replace what can I do with I have skills.

Hang in there girl you will make it happen.

Thanks for all the replies:) I am looking into some of the suggestions but, Julene, I couldn't get onto that site for some reason. Also I live in Canada so I am definetely not in Texas or Georgia!lol. I also don't handmake anything I can sell, I have no musical ability whatsoever and my town is so small it has a weekly newspaper with 2 pages (seriously) so they don't need any writers. Pati, you suggestion of making a list sounds like a great idea, I'm definetely going to try that and see what i come up with. As for child daycare in my house, I thought about it but our house is pretty small and my partner doesn't want me to bring in extra kids. I appreciate everyone's replies. I don't think I have any marketable skills! lol.

Oh, Chantel, I've tried it all!!! What I'm doing now really pleases me and works with my schedule.

I teach music in the evenings 2 days a week (I cut down from last year). I make $34 per hour. Not bad, huh? Find a skill you can market and get in touch with people who can get you students. If you know a foreign language, tutor in it. Contact teachers that can get you in touch with students who need your services.

I also work for Ignite setting people up with electricity service, which I have found takes very little of my precious time. This only works if you live in Texas or Georgia, though. If you do, feel free to contact me about it and I'll give you more information.

Bottom line... find out what you're good at, what you love to do, and work it, girl!!!

As long as you don't have more than three unrealted children, you don't have to be certified for inhome daycare. I watch only teacher's children and it has been wonderful. I am off when my children are. My last daycare child leaves by 4:30.

I have been a mostly stay at home mom for 18 years. I did have to work for awhile (when I was married) out side the home but always around her school hours. I have tried 20+ be your own boss programs from melaluca and amyway to taking surveys online. Now I do bookkeeping for a few small businesses, and I either go pick up paperwork and bring it home or one co. sends it to me and I go online to access their books. It has been great, I can work at night or when she is in school and be there anytime she needs me. since her dad died that has been a real blessing as some days she just needed to be held for hours and I was there every second. I have not had to miss one activity or performance of hers and as a 1099 contractor, I get to write off alot of things. The benifit for a co to hire you as an outside contractor above all is no workers comp or insurance or payroll fees to pay.

I also just started a amazon site to sell consumer electronics, since she is going to college soon I need to upgrade my work to something I can take anywhere and do from my computer. I want to get out of the city when she finishes school and this will allow me to work from any town I choose to move to.

There are many things you can do from home, and I Commend you for even looking into a stay at home job. start with a list of what skills you have. Then write down what you like to do. Next look through some ads, craigslist can be a good place to and see what people are looking for that you can do. Place an ad, letting people know that you are available to help with their needs. One thing that would be sure to keep you at home would be to look at child care. You can have just 1-3 kids at your home and make as much as a job after paying for travel and child care. It is not that hard, set up a little area to have crafts, a little reading area with pillows for resting, and of course play area in side and out. Provide meals and snacks and a loving enviroment. Getting licensed is different in each state but do check it out. Best wishes for a job that works for you and your family.

I am a meteorologist, and though I do free-lance TV work which takes me away from my 3 young kids a few days a month, another job I do is write a weekly column for the local newspaper. Obviously, my column is about weather. If you have expertise in other fields and have good writing skills, you may be able to peddle a column idea to your local newspaper. You won't make alot of money, as budgets for all media companies (both TV and print media) are shrinking, but it's another source of income. I do all my writing after the kids go to bed, e-mail it to the newspaper editor, and I'm done!

I am a Medical Transcriptionist and love it! I also have a digital imprinting business that I started back in February. I owned a florist when my first child was born and had always worked outside the home. When she was 18 months old I sold it and have been at home ever since--she is now 10 and I have a 5 year old son as well. My little one started school this year so I have more "work" time while they are out of the house but working at home still allows me to be on field trips and flexible for anything else. Medical transcription is a great job-once you have your foot in the door getting a job is not that difficult.

I agree with daycare. I started doing it when my 2nd child was born. That was 10 yrs ago!!! I have a 15 yr old and a 101/2 yr old. It's the best thing to enable you to stay home. I am licensed and I watch 4 children. It's a great income without having to leave your home and you can do your household stuff while they nap! I thought I would only do it until my kids went to school full time, but here I am 10 yrs later! Good Luck!!

The only thing I have found that works for me is to do daycare. It's not what I'm planning to do for the rest of my life, but at least until all of my children are in school full time. It definately requires patience and a little extra room, but I get an average of $180 a week for 2 children which is more than I would have been bringing home if I was working and paying for daycare and it also saves me the headache of what to do with my school age children after they get out of school...I'm free to go pick them up and get homework done before my husband comes home. I got my start only by word of mouth...and have had many offers which I've turned down because I want to limit myself to only 2 children. Good luck and I give kudos to anyone who gets the opportunity to stay at home with their babies.

Get certified to keep other peoples' children :) All you would really need to do is take a CPR class and baby proof your house (if it isn't already). It's not expensive to get certified, it just takes a little time, and you can keep as many kids as you want. Some states will pay certified sitters to keep children whose parents have state aid. Check out your state's website or the CDC. With this job, you can be with your baby all the time and you can decide how long you keep this job, whether before moving on to another job or doing this as your career. You will also get to meet other moms in your area and possibly make a few friends, if not for you then for your baby.
