Does anyone know what the appropriate age is to get braces? I think Elisabeth is going to need them.

My mom's policy was that as long as I could chew all right, I could decide to get them when I could pay for them myself.

Most 'just crookedy' problems resolve themselves over time. And orthodontists have a vested interest in getting you to pay mucho bucks for years on end for a tiny cosmetic gain.

Dave Letterman and Cher did just fine with visible gaps between their teeth; I think it just made Cher more beautiful. :->

Every child is different and it depends on what is going on with your daughter's teeth. If there is crowding or little space with baby teeth chances are that some sort of braces or movable retainers will be needed to make room for the adult teeth. It is best to take them to the orthodontist for an evaluation when they are young; usually at the age of 6 they start to lose some baby teeth and will start to get their first molars. Check with your dentist or hygienst and ask for a referral to an orthodontist. Good luck.

GOING TO THE DENTIST OR AN ORTHODONIST WOULD HELP YOU MAKE YOUR DECISION THATS BEST FOR YOUR DAUGHTER...MY 2 OUTTA 3 OF MA NEICES WERE TOLD TO GET THEM AND WHEN THEY WENT TO ORTHO THEY SAY THAT THEY WILL BE FINE AND THEY ARE 9 AND 13 TODAY AND THIS WAS LAST YEAR.

I think that all kids are different, Hayley needs them too, but they wanted to wait until she lost certain teeth...your dentist will most likely refer you to the orthodontist, as did mine before making a recommendation. I have to get Hayley in braces soon....

There is no appropriate age. But, how old is your daughter? I remember my daughter's dentist telling me that she would need braces, but she hadn't even lost all of her baby teeth at the time. And she doesn't have all of her adult teeth yet. She is eight now, and that was probably about 3-4 years ago. He hasn't said anything about them since and she goes twice a year.

my daughter started at the age of 7. she has a small mouth and big teeth. they had to remove some baby teeth in order to make room for the bigger teeth to come in right...or else some of them (teeth) would have no choice but to come out toward the roof other mouth. see your dentist...i got a second opinion before proceeding. it was in my daughter's best interest for less pain in the future :)

there is no appropriate age. The best thing to do is talk to your Dentist and see what they say. Usually braces don't help until there are no more baby teeth only adult teeth. Also a consult with an Orthodontist will help, they can tell you if braces are needed or if only a retainer is needed.
