I'm looking to invest in one, but I've thought about just buying material from the store. Wondering if it should be stretchable cotton or something else.

I thought about doing the same thing, but I bought the moby wrap as you get the book that tells you how to wrap the kids. Which was helpful to me. We only used our wrap a few times. I couldn't wrap him by myself so I used it only when hubby was with. But from what I used it I like it.

It's just stretchy cotton with tapered ends, about 20feet or so. You can definitely make your own, but go on their website to get an idea of what it should look like.
