It is certainly expensive .....but i think its worth it. My son was already 7 months when we started the program and it seems to be working. He is still on the first video and he will add the second video on the 23rd of this month. My son seems to enjoy the videos and he seems to regcognize words...like hi and clap. He can already say mama and dada although I am not certain that he knows what it means. However I am certain that he is farther along than he would be without the videos and is getting a head start on learning the different parts of speach. If I had more free time i think he would be making more progress but just the videos seem to be helping.
Good luck.

Thanks for your response, Cassie. It answered my question and confirmed what I already thought - it's a lot of mimicing not a lot of reading. I totally agree with everything in your post. I'm constantly reading to my - he'll bring me book after book and crawl into my lap so I can read to him - I was taught to read this way and it's the way my son will learn. Who needs an overpriced product when you can do it for free.

I think it's a waste of money. While it does "work" for many children, it is not teaching reading. It is rote memorization; the child memorizes what is on the screen or flashcard. "Your baby can read" requires your child to watch a good bit of tv which is not recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics before age 2.
Children benefit most from hands-on experiences and opportunities provided by parents, not a product. Sit down and read to your child; talk to them about the everyday things they see, you can even label simple objects in your home. All of these things will help establish good reading skills for your child. When children are developmentally ready, they will learn to read but it is a skill best learned when parents simply read daily to their children.
Children today are already pushed at such a young age to excel. I think programs such as this put unnecessary pressure on children and parents to be the best and do things first. The children you see "reading" on this program as toddlers are not able to understand the complex processes of reading; instead, they have memorized the appearance of words and can parrot them off when seen. This program does not teach phonics or basic reading skills, only rote memorization.
It is your choice as a parent to purchase and use this program but I think children would be better served by parents who read more to them, talked to them more, and were just generally more involved in their child's day and experiences.

I honestly don't think I would waste my money on it. Like Tassia mentioned, I would probably be more apt to just make my own flash cards with simple words like dog, cat, apple etc. and pictures beside the word and I probably would not spend too much time worrying about whether or not my one year old can read. :/
I was reading children's books by the time I was two and a half (Chicken Little was my very first book) and that was because my uncle would read to me everynight and I wanted to read to him so he started by writing out letters and telling me their sounds and then when he was reading he would remind me of that and slowly sound out the words. It didn't take long before I was reading along (slowly) with him and by two and a half I was reading to him.
It was such a simple method.. and it was 100% FREE. :P
I plan on doing this when my daughter shows that SHE is interested in learning to read.

I hope you don't get into looking for achievements before they are toddlers! The best thing you can do to encourage reading is to read to them from the very first days and continue every day after until they don't want you to anymore

This program is easy to recreate without purchasing anything. If you watch the infomercials (which I did - I am a speech-language pathologist with a high interest in reading), it tells you how it works. Honestly, it's probably things you are doing already =)

My husband and I have seen the commercials and I heard about it from a friend, all this feedback has been really helpful. Our daughter is 6 months old, can you tell us how old your little ones were when you started the program?

Does it teach phonics or is it just a lot of mimicing?

I did not try it becuase I want her to have fun, I tthink that those are to demanding for her age. I do use flash cards with my daughter, they have the words on the back and a pic and the word on the front. I show her the word and she recognizes the word. I think it works well and it is fun not demanding. She loves seeing the pics and claps when she gets it right.

This is one product you will not want to skimp on by getting a generic. My friends have used other methods with their kids and it doesn't work as well... My son uses this and he doesn't like the videos very much but he reads the flash cards with me and the books. He hasn't been speakng much before we started using this and now he's talking up a storm. I think the one on one time and the tools that are taught give him confidence. HIGHLY recommend. Brandon we started it about a month ago and he's advancing very quickly on it. He's a lil over a year and half now.

With the research Dr. Titzer did with his own kids, I would only trust the real thing. I really don't go for generic.

It's only $15 if you want to try it out. I think it's worth it to pay the whole $250 or whatever it is now.

We use it and it's the ONLY video my boy wants to watch-- EVER!! He is beginning to recognize words like "hi" and "clap" and "wave." He would be further along, I'm sure, if I could devote ALL the time the program requires, but it has definitely made him understand speech a lot earlier and give him tools to communicate (nodding "yes" and "no"). If you have the money to spend (or Grandma and Grandpa can do half or something) it is a great boost to what you already teach your kid at home.
