thats really good, my little boy is now 2 months old and is still in my room and thats only because im not ready to move him just yet. i want to wait till i know he is doing a full night. this may be soon as he has done 8 hours the last to night, but im still worried about leaving him over night..... am i just being an over protective first time mum.........

my son is 9 months and still sleeps in my room in his own crib.He has slept through the night since the second day we brought him home. He never sleeps in are bed unless he is sick and needs a little extra care. I work a full time job at night so it makes it nice because alot of the time he will wake up in the morning, look to make sure im there and just play for awhile until he falls back to sleep or i get up with him. If he sees im not there he yells until one of us comes and gets him

i could never get my boys to sleep on their own/in own room...my first slept w/us until he was 3 and now sleeps in his own room, my second is still in our bed and he is 2 - I need to know how to get them to sleep in their room - I just want sleep that is why I let them sleep w/us...not the best thing i know but all they do is scream and cry and get out of bed and come wake me up to get in bed w/me - such a battle...

My son slept in my room beside our bed in a bassinette until he was 2 months as i also had a c-section and couldnt move very quickly, and i suffer from anemia and get tired very easily so he was beside me until 2 months old, so i could let my body adjust to waking in the night, but after the 1st week in his cot he was sleeping right though so now it isnt very often that he will wake during the night.
what ever works for you and your baby is the right thing to do, not what other people think you should do with your children!

My littlist one sleeps with me. Breastfeeding and lack of sleep it is easier. My older sleeps in her bed in our room. I am not a believer in letting little ones scream themselves to sleep and therefore am willing to give up a little of my space to have everyone sleeping peacefully.

My son occasional slept in his own room when he was an infant, but he mostly slept in the bassinet of his pack-n-play in our room. When he became to heavy for it (about 4 months), we moved him in his own room. His problem wasn't the transition, it was soothing himself back to sleep. Once I trained him to do that, things have been great! We also keep a routine, so I think that help too. He's 10 months now and has no problem sleeping own his own.

Hello! My daughter slept through the night at about 3-4 weeks of age and she slept in her own room. I would always wake when she cried and could tend to her just as well. I will do the same when/if I have any other children.

My little guy is 13 months and I am proud to say he has slept in his crib since just over 2 months old. We had him in a bassinet in our room for the first 2 months (I had a c section as well). He has slept through the night since around this time too, I think it's better for everyone and creates good sleeping habits.

very similar to what you did. he slept with us for about a week, then i bought a glider, and he slept in it until 3.5 months in the same room with us, but out of the bed. at 3.5-4 mos he went to his bed, his room. 1st night was rough, but after that he was fine. Mostly because his bed did not move like the glider!! My son also has slept thru the night since we brought him home. I breastfed, and the NIGHT we brought him home, he slept 7 hours before he woke up to eat. I never woke him to eat, he would awake on his own. He is like his momma, he likes his sleep!! he is 16 mos now, and will go to bed between 8-9pm and is up like 7:30-8am every morn. if he wakes in the night, i dont hear him. I have the monitor on, and he wont wake us up. He may not go to sleep when I put him down, but he just talks to himself until he falls asleep! It made our life alot easier!!!

we put our boy in his own crib in his own room right from the start. we always said we would. apart from broken nights due to colic he has been perfectly settled in his own room. personally i think this worked well for all of us, my husband had a good sleep for work, i wasnt worrying everytime he stirred and baby is content on his own.

My oldest never slept in his own bed until he was at least 7 yrs old. He now has his own bed but will not sleep in his own room. My mother in law did the same thing with my husband. But my youngest has his own bed and his own room. But when he stays over, I sleep in his room otherwise he is in our room @ 5am with a nightmare. We are trying to have his sleep in his own room tonight by himself.

My daughter slept in the bed with us for the 6 weeks and then in her cradle next to the bed until she was 4 months and then i moved her to her crib in her own room. She has been sleeping through the night since she was about 6 weeks and now she is 7 months and sleeps 10-11 hours.

I believe that this depends on your baby. I have three children and they were all different. My second wouldnt sleep through the night in the same room and the third only sleeps through the night in the same room. Find what suits you. Good luck!

Our intent was to have our daughter in our room at first, but she was a month old before she even got home from the hospital. She was a really good sleeper, so we put her straight in her own room (she's our only one). She's been sleeping through the night since 3 months, and for a month and a half before that only getting up once around 4:30 am. Her first week home I didn't even sleep in my bed - I slept in the living room so my husband (who had to go in to work) could sleep through the night.

We did the co-sleeping thing.It wasn't the way we planned it.The lil one had jaundice and had to be on the billi-blanket esp during the night and i was too afraid he'd get wrapped in the cord or something.Then he was diagnosed with reflux.He was such a strong-headed boy that he was throwing himself around at a very early age and the pedi was concerned about he vomitting during his sleeping and suggested me sleeping with him.That's how it started.My partner was working away for the first yr so it was nice that we had that bonding experience.Braylon is now 22mo old and he still sleeps with us.I don't find it a burden at all.We all sleep together and we all sleep best when he's with us.I believe that he will sleep in his own bed when he's ready, which I think will be soon.

We put him down for bed around 8.This is the funnest time of day because we all play in the bed and sing our ABCs and so on.It's our favorite time of day.He will sleep later in the day if i'm in bed with him, generally til 9:30.We wake up at the exact same time. I'm so glad we ended up co-sleeping!! But I do understand that everyone is different.

my son still sleeps with me, and he is 28 months, but he falls asleep in his own room and just comes in about half way thru the night, so it's only for a few hours. i don't mind it at all, im a big cuddler, and hubby works nights, so it works for us. but i am going to have to start trying to get him to sleep the whole night in his own bed, because im preggers again, so new baby will need to be in the bed (i breastfeed on demand as well) and we only have a double lol

YES!!! Start them right away and you will not have problems later on. Your kids will sleep better and so will you! Both my kids slept in their own crib in their own room the very first night home from the hospital, and they both were sleeping thru the night by 2 months old. It was the best peace of advice I got before I had kids and the best advice I can give.

Our son slept in our room until he was about 2 months old. But we had a different situation that some - our son was born 5 weeks early and was on a heart/apnia monitor so we kept him close for the first 2 months out of concern for that. But we switched him to his own room after that, some of which too my husband was starting a new job and needed sleep, and he has been in his own room since then.

The day they turned 3 months old, they went to the nursery in the crib (my daughters in a toddler bed now) and stayed there. I just thought they were to small for the crib before that and preferred to have them in the bassinett in my room.

For the first week and a half my little girl slept with me having a cuddle. Then she slept in her moses basket next to my side of the bed. She is now 13 weeks and has been sleeping in her own room for a week.

She still sleeps in our room in her own crib. I am sure she will do just fine sleeping in her own room....it's us who can't let her go. And we are cool with that.

We will probably move her into her room after our road trip in July. She's be 6 mths by then.

My son is currently a few days shy of 9 months ( he'll be 9 months on the 6th) and he has been sleeping in his own crib in his own room since he was five weeks old.. he shared a room with us for 5 weeks and then we made the transition.. despite having to go to his room to get him at night ( he just started sleeping through the night at 8 months)

i slept on the couch with my kids in their moses basket next to me for the first two weeks. with my eldest, she was in our room for 3 months, then into her own room. my youngest stayed in our room for 6 months but that was mainly because she had to share with her sister and i was worried how it all work out!!
not that i'm really against co-sleeping, but it's certainly not anything i ever considered.
both my daughters always had naps in their cots once they weren't in the moses basket anymore. :)

My son is the same way...sleeps in his own room. He goes to bed at 7pm & I wake him up at 6am so I can go to work. He has been in his own crib since the beginning with a few exceptions of the swing on those really bad nights. Other than that he loves his crib & thank God because he snores!!! HA!

Mine has been sleeping in my room in his bassinet, but I started him taking his naps in his crib. Last night was his first night in his crib for the entire night and he is 6 weeks. I figured that was a good time period. It would have been shorter, but I got sick and kept him near me for convenience. I think this will work out good though! I can't wait for him to sleep through the night :)

We had maddie in her own room at three-months-old. We all slept a lot better I think.

I was also lucky like you. Maddie slept right through from 6-weeks-old and she was a breastfed baby. It's only during the last month she has started waking up around 11pm. Maybe she's teething (10-months-old).

Maddie slept in our room for the first three months but this was because I was breast feeding. When we go away I find that Maddie doesn't sleep as heavily if we're in the room with her. Or maybe it's just that I'm more intune to her beside us!

Some research suggests that 6 months is a good age to put them in their own room.

I don't think many people wait this long.

My DD slept in my room in her bassinette for the first 3 weeks, then went into her cot in her room with no problems whatsoever. I chose to move her so soon as she was a big baby and fast outgrowing the bassinette, she already slept 7-8 hrs straight at night so I wasn't up and down to her all the time, and she was a really loud restless sleeper and I stirred at every noise. Her room is right next to mine so there was never an issue about hearing her if she needed me. I'm glad I got her settled in her own room so early.

We were in hospital for a week after my son was born and he slept fine but when we got home I had him in the bassinet next to my bed and he was waking every hour. It drove me nuts (I really need my sleep) so I put him in his own room and he promptly started sleeping for 4-5 hours at a stretch which was a huge relief. I imagine number 2 will go straight into the nursery too.



Sex round the house is good even if you aren't co-sleeping ;)

Sex hasn't been a problem. The baby goes to bed (our bed) earlier than my husband and I do. I usually nurse my son to sleep between 7 and 8pm. Hubby and I are usually up until 11pm - plenty of time for sex, somewhere other than in the bedroom. I'm sure that our arrangement will change as our son gets older, but I think we've been able to strike a good balance between intimate time with each other and bonding time with the baby.

I myself also had a c-section when my son was born, mine was a planned c-section from the get go due to personal medical issues. My son came a month early and I still was able to have it only it was via emergency c-section. My son has slept in his own room from the day we brought him home. That was one battle I wasn't willing to fight as he got older. The only time my son gets to sleep with me is when he is sick and can't get comfortable on his own in his own bed

Both of my kids slept in their own beds from the first day home from the hospital. With my daughter I did not return home immediately (I was to sick and went to my mothers for a month) but my daughter slept in a playpen in the alcove upstairs next to the bedrooms. My son slept in his crib from day one back from the hospital. Where we lived at the time the master bedroom was to small to put more than a bed and a dresser so there was no way a crib or cradle would fit in the room. So we converted the office next to our bedroom into the babys room. My daughter started sleeping through the night at six weeks of age but my son has been a different matter, he seems to get nightmares and does not sleep well when he is teething. His own room has been a blessing because if both mommy and daddy were not getting any sleep things would be horrendous. I have never felt comfortable co-sleeping with a baby because of the horror stories I heard of babies being smothered so it was never going to be an option for me.

My son now 8 months has slept in his crib from day one. My husband was extremely uncomfortable with letting him sleep in our bed because he was afraid that we would roll over at night and smother him. I personally don't think that this risk is any greater than any risks from having them sleep alone. It actually caused some tension between us because there were nights when I really didn't want to get out of bed anymore and just wanted to let our son sleep with us but my husband was extremely uncomfortable with that. In the end I decided that I would respect my husband's feeling on the subject because I know he only had my son's safety at heart.

I was wondering though, Vanessa where did you get your information that 95% of SIDS happen from babies sleeping alone because I would love to read that research.

And for those of you who do cosleep, how to you have sex? Just curious.

All three of mine have co slept. In the beginning they startd in a bassinett, but always ended up in our bed throughout the night. Then moved to their crib to start, but again in our bed sometime in the night. Then their bed, and sometime in the middle of night ours! I love to cuddle with my little ones, especially in the morning, they are so extra sweet in the morn with thir sleepy eyes! Our 3rd one is the only one that actually starts the night in our bed, I know I am bad....but he is so stinking cute!!! Actually my husband, myself, and my little one (2 1/2)...have a great laugh everynight before sleep. Sometimes it is the only time my husband really gets with him so it is nice to see them playing and laughing. The only downfall is the whole intimacy thing, but honestly some nights it is a releif, cuz I don't have to fake a headache or anything!!!LOL! Plus he definitely has to be more creative then oh we are in bed and ok let's go ahead. It has to be oh I want that, gotta figure out how to make it happen. Anyhow...I am a kids sleep in mama's bed kinda momma....some people just aren't and that's okay too! Plus, my older 2 moved out on thir own just fine..and I would say they are perfectly normal 8 and 13 year olds...so no worries!

All my kids have co slept up until 12 months. We have a mini co sleeper next to our bed so that the baby is beside me, but not in bed with me. I can roll over easily, pick them up, feed them and then put them back into their own bed, all without having to get out of bed. My husband takes diaper duty if the other kids haven't gotten up, but if they have I have diaper duty as well. I love co sleeping, the one downside is it is a bit difficult to keep them out of your bed when they are older. We currently end up with at least 2 kids in our bed each night.

My sons slept in the room with us for the first few months BUT he slept on the pack and play. Once he got older and started to pull up then we moved him to his own room to sleep and haven't had a problem since.

Vanessa, I agree with you completely. And no matter what some people seem to think - it doesnt 'spoil' them (you cant spoil a baby!) and they DO want to have their own beds when they are ready for it - in much the same way as they ALL leave home eventually!
However, Im wary of offending anyone who chooses to do differently as it always ends in a word-war...
