They numb the area first with pain relief, so you don't feel the actual epidural go in. I think it's more knowing the fact that you have a huge needle going into your spinal cord that is a little off putting more than the pain. Believe me, when you are having contractions, the pain of a needle is bliss! The pain is more than worth it, as after that all pain is gone! Don't worry, you'll be fine!

Ive had 3 babies. My first son was induced labor and because i wasnt progressing and i had been up for so long my doctor recommeded an epidural so i could get some sleep. Honestly as long as u hold still and bear hug the nurse thats in front of you your fine. I didnt feel pain just a brief monent of lots of pressure. My nerve endings are high which we didnt know when i had the first baby so i got 2 epidurals in less than an hr and a half. It beats feeling all the pain of labor i got some much needed rest before having an emergency csection. Good Luck

Getting an epidural is just like getting a shot. Once they give you the epidural it can take 10-15 minutes before you get some relief from the contraction pains, but it is so worth it if you are not relaxing to let your body do what your body needs to do to push your new bundle of joy out.

It did not hurt me. The contractions are more painful.
