I have 10 weeks left with my 2nd pregnancy. I just wondered how everyones 2nds birth went.

Was your 2nd child on time, early or late?

Was labour longer or shorter?

My doc said they come on their birthday. We all try to find patterns, but all kids differ and each birth is its own.

As a midwife, I will tell you that babies come when they do, not when they are due. :-) I haven't noticed that they will come later or earlier, though if you went to 41, 42, or 43 weeks with your first you are likely to have subsequent babies come after their due date. But, each baby is different.

Casey,
I usually make it a rule never to discuss my labor and delivery with any woman in her final trimester-so I will give you the condensed version. My second child was due on his older brother 4th birthday ( I didn't know the sex ahead of time) He didn't come. 7 days later my friend was over and got me laughing so hard that it triggered my first REAL contractions. I went to bed all was quiet- until about 3 am when the contractions came on fast and furious. I was in the Hospital by 6 am and gave birth at 7:13 that night. Delivery was hairy and my son spent a few days in the NICU. Everyone had told me that the second ( and 3rd, 4th,etc...) were easier and faster. My reaction ? THEY LIED! But as my sons grew I was very glad that they had their own birthdays and didn't have to share. Each delivery is different... I hope yours goes smoothly and safely. God Bless! PS- My oldest turns 23 this Wed and my youngest turns 19 next Thursday!

I have two children currently and a 3rd on the way. I think it differs from woman to woman but in my case, My 2nd child did not come any earlier than my first. they both went past their due date. I do have to say though that the labor did go quicker the 2nd time around. About half the time. I hear from a lot of moms that this is usually the case. Good luck!

You can not compare one pregnancy to another. Each one will happen when the time is right to that one. All I can tell you is that at least you know what to expect overall. You know there will be a beginning, a middle and an end. You just have to try to relax and let it happen.

I've had 4 children and my labors got longer but everyone is different. All of my pregnacies were a little past due and my last one was 2-3 weeks over due. :)

My first child was due November 18th and didn't show 'till December 1st. My second child was due on November 19th and didn't show until December 1st. (yep the same date two years later) and so he showed up one day earlier? But he was still almost two weeks late!

my first was born at 33 wks 6d and labor lasted 4 days..water broke didn't start having contractions and they wouldn't induce cause they wanted to give steriods for his lungs, but once labor was induced only lasted 12 hrs, second son was induced due to gestional diabetes..thought he was going to be over 9lbs but was only 7lbs 3 oz and his labor lasted maybe 7 hrs, but all women are different and labor differently, babies come when they want is what I learned, first son wanted to get out second son didn't

My 1st son was born the day before his due date, my labor was 19 hours, and he weighed 7lbs 5oz. My 2nd son was born 4 days before his due date, my labor was 3 hours, and he also weighed 7lbs 5 oz. My 3rd son was born over a week late, my labor was about an hour, and he weighed 7lbs 12 oz. For me my labors got quicker with each baby and all of my boys weighed about the same esp if my 3rd had been born around his due date he probably would have weighed about the same as the other boys. I would have to say that every pregnancy and baby can be very different. I also truly believe that a baby will come when it is ready. I think that alot of unnecessary inductions take place that are not for a good medical reason. When I would tell people that I was past my due date with my 3rd every person wanted to know why I hadn't been induced. But I let my son come when he was ready and my labor was only an hour. We also chose to have him at home which was wonderful. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy. I hope that your second labor is faster and you get the birth that YOU want.

I just had my second one 2 months ago; she was one week earlier (37 weeks) and labor went much faster! Now I don't know if that was because I had girl this time & a boy the last or just because she was my second.

my 1st and 2nd were both 3 days overdue. 2nd definately easier as I knew what to expect and stayed in control, but labour twice as long! Planned home birth - amazing.

as for my labor it went very short , i was given an epideral which caused me to have an itching reaction so they gave me benedryl which always makes me extremely sleepy,so i slept through it all, woke up just in time to push 3 times & out she came

yea, well it was achieved by 3 separate pushing/contractions haha! 11.4 lb.'s first came her head then another for her shoulders and another for her torso. but, she's perfectly healthy and an appropriate weight. this also was the first one i had without an episiotomy the head of the ob/gyn was in charge and it's amazing that i guess they massage or whatever and barely no tearing. i wasn't scared until my last ultrasound "whoa this is going to be a BIG baby" !!?? i would've been happier if they had kept it to themselves and i didn't have to stress thinking that it was 8 lb.'s or so like they were saying all along. ha! they called her the "Queen" of the nursery. lol!

I have had 5 babies and each one was later then the one before...but as far as I have heard I am the odd ball. Labor was different with each 36 hours with my first about 5 with my second, almost 2 hours with the third, 6 hours with # four and an enducement with # five about 12 hours...she was over 2 weeks late. It was easier no matter how long the delivery. Good luck and congradulations.

it all depends on you & the baby, my second one was early but so was my first. sometimes the baby is on time and there are times where the baby comes early or late so it all depends on the pregnancy. but however you do get a bit bigger ( sometimes) with the second child.

My 1st son was 3 days late according to my doctor's calculations. (On time, by mine.) I was in labor for 19 1/2 hours. My 2nd son was 2 days late by my doctor's calculations, (on time by mine.) I was in labor for 13 hours. My 3rd son was 11 days late by my doctor's calculations (5 days late, by mine.) I was induced and was only in labor for 8 hours.

As you can see from most of the responses, every birth and child is different.

Neither. I had to be induced twice. Both kids were born a day after their due date, but the second time around was much easier. I had a quicker recovery too. (both were born naturally)

[deleted account]

both my girls were exactly 2 weeks early and about 10 hours of regular labor... my 3rd & only son, was 3 weeks early and 12 hours labor... just depends on when they decide to show up!

My 2nd was absolutely perfect! She came a week early. Its funny, cause I had just made tons of deviled eggs to prepare for Easter, had the Easter baskets out and all ready to go and as soon as I laid down, the contractions came, Straight out of the movies, I told my husband "Honey it's Time" We got to the hosptial 2 hours later at 2:30am and Our precious daughter was born at 4:30am. I had no time for drugs or anything. She was in a hurry!!! But I tell you what, that was the best way to do it! I felt wonderful afterwards too! So I wish that for you! Good luck!

My 2nd child was delivered in half the time of my 1st child. But like everyone has said, each pregnancy is different.

[deleted account]

My first was 1 1/2 weeks late,my second was born a day before his due date and much shorter labor. My third who is 13 years younger than my second was induced as they would not allow me to go past 40 weeks. I had been a centimeter for a week and she just wasn't budging!

With my first, he was 7 days early. He was born 5-1/2 hours after we got to the hospital. My second was 8 days early, and he came like lightning- I dilated all the way to 9 on the way to the hospital, and he was born about 2 hours later.

My first was 3 days late, 6 hour labor. My second was 1 day early, 4 hour labor. My third was 2 days early, and a 2-3 hour labor (can't really remember exactly on the 3rd because I didn't care - finally got there early enough to get an epidural, the first 2 I didn't get an epidural because I went faster than they thought I would). And I would have loved the epidural every time.

I'm a grandma so my giving birth was 32 years ago to my second child. She came a day early and was born within 15 minutes upon my arrival to the hospital. There was no pain like I had with my first who had to be induced because the water broke too early. I hope this helps. Enjoy both your children. They grow up very quickly.

My first was 2 days off from the due date. My second was 3 weeks 1 day late, my third 3 weeks 2 days early. All three births were natural births, first in the hospital (9.5 hour labor), second at home with a midwife (5 hour labor), and third a precipitous labor of 1 hour 15 min. with birth in the front seat of my car in an empty parking lot in NH on route to the birth center.

my first baby, water broke at 2 am, got to the hospital at 4 am, and she was born at noon, and was 5 days early, my second baby, went to the hospital at 8 pm, water broke in the hospital around 10:30, and she was born at 543 am, and she was 11 days early! Both were natural births, no pain medicine at all, and the 2nd labor seemed much easier to handle knowing what to expect from it all.

My first took 27 hours, and my second took 2 1/2 hours (I almost didn't make it to the hospital!) When my water broke with my third I raced to the hospital thinking she would arrive within minutes of my water breaking, but she ended up taking 13 hours. I guess all deliveries and babies are different. Good luck with yours!!

My 1st came 2 weeks early with water breaking and no contractions. Out of my 3 pregnancies, it was my best but longest labor. 2nd one came 2 weeks early too but it was due to a hurricane about to make landfall and was told it was due to the barometric pressure inducing labor. 3rd one I was induced at 39 weeks because she wasnt dropping and they measured her to be about 10 lbs. They were wrong and had we waited she might have been about 2 weeks past due date. But like they say, there is no rhyme or reason, hence the reason for 2 week window before or after due date.

My second one came 4 weeks late I actually carried him 44 and a half weeks. But that is and was a very unusual pregnancy. My mother had ten children and she always said that they come when God knows they are ready. As a nurse I know this is true. Each has to go through its own time to form the only way it might come sooner is by you recognizing when you are in labor earlier and preparing yourself and family for less chaos when it does come.
