We no longer use any detergents or fabric softeners that have scents or dyes in them. We also do not use soap on my daughters body. We wash with a wash cloth and water unless there is a spot that just won't come clean, then we use a small amount of dye and fragrance free soap. (My doctor recommended this.) My doctor also said to only bathe her if she was dirty and not everyday. So we wash hair in the sink and take a bath 3 times a week. We've been doing these things for 6 months now and most of her eczema is gone and she has rarely had a flareup. Good luck.

Start with the Laundry detergent and Household cleaning supplies. I use Shaklee's Get Clean line which is non-toxic, natural, biodegradable and less expensive than the store brands. Don't use DREFT, it contains toxic skin irritating ingredients. You could also use the Shaklee Baby skin care line which is 100% natural and 76-100% organic. Check out these videos http://content.shaklee.com/shaklee/flash... and my website at http://www.shaklee.net/mccartney. My daughter suffers with allergies, asthma and eczema and Shaklee products are the only ones that work.

Might even be the dryer sheets. Use Eucerin cream all over the dry parts of his body every night. You can also try hydrocortisone cream , none prescription.

Does he get patches on his skin of dry skin or is it all over? He may have eczema. I would try switching laundry detergent (maybe allergic reaction). My son has eczema and I use ALL laundry detergent and don't have any problems with it. I would try non scented lotions.

My daughter was born with itchy skin. I tried everything too. What finallly worked the best for us wass getting allergy testing and eliminating eggs and nuts from her diet. The lotions that work best for us are Vanicream and Vaceline. Just remember Tried and true "mom-sense" works really well. We live in a very high desert area. And I give my daughter a couple of baths each day then coat her in lotion.

Hope this helps. God Bless.

The only thing that helped my son was Cortaid. Nothing else seemed to take the itchy out of it for him. I use it for two days and his skin clears, and then I use California Baby on him..which has absolutly no perfumes or dyes..and I use California Baby soap.

I use Eucerin lotion for severly dry skin for my daughter's excema and it really helps. I have to apply it at least 3 times a day, but it makes a real difference.

Yuck! I would get that every time I got pregnant! Not fun. Have you taken him to a derm. dr.? The dr might be able to help more than the ped.

Quoting Dawn:

Have you tried changing the laundry detergent that you are using. My brother can't use certain kinds otherwise he gets itchy skin and will even break out in a rash. He could also be allergic to foods too. Might want to keep a food diary to see if he gets itchy after eatting something.
