Anyone have any experience with earache? My five year old daughter for the past two nights has been in agony with an earache that seams to start around sun down. It was so bad that we had to take her to emergency last night, which the doctors dismissed saying she probably scratched the inside of her ear.......and now my husband has taken her to emergency again tonight after 5hrs of her crying and whimpering, dozing of for five minutes because she is exhusted only to be woke by the pain sobbing .... I have never seen her sooo distressed with pain :( . Please any thoughts on the matter would be really appreciated . Thank you... Caz

I am VERY sypathitic to what you are going through right now. I have 2 boys who are now 3 & 5 and when they were younger we battled many ear infections / ear aches ~ which both eventually had to have tubes. As one of the other moms said if she has a temp or has anything coming out I would definately go back to the doctor. To try to keep her comfortable in the meantime you could do what we did & it saved our lives...alternate with Tylenol & Motrin. I wasn't into so much medicine but their pediatrician said doing this was perfectly safe and my kids weren't in such pain. Good Luck to you.

Keep an eye on her temp and get her in to her pediatrician. Sounds like an inner ear infection. If left untreated can rupture the inner ear drum and cause permanent damage.Usually bothers young children while laying on their back because of the short eustacian tubes in the ear and fluid build up .

Hi Caroline

Is she oozing anything out of her ear? Michael had lots of fluid cming out a couple of weeks ago and was crying and had a temp. I took him to the GP on the Monday who gave him drops. I took him back on Wed to see our GP and he actually had a ruptured ear drum, so was given antibiotics and had to use Painstop.

SO, I guess long story short, any fluid comes out and it means middle ear infection which requires antibiotics. If your not happy with the Dr's diagnosis and the syptoms continue take her back to see another Dr.
