My eight year old has trouble hearing. Took to an Ear, Nose and Throat docter and he suggested she get tubes in her ears. Fluid is collecting behind her eardrum. Fluid came from a cold. He also suggested she get her adnoids removed. I need some advice because I'm so nervous!

Thanks to all! My daughter did get tubes in her ear and she had her adenoids removed! She is doing great!

I had my adenoids removed and tubes put in my ears when I was 9 years old. I would say after a week I was fully recovered, no pain, and back at school. This was over 20 years ago though, so i'm not sure if the procedures are the same as well as recovery times.

My son had both done when he was 2-3. He heard & talked better, slept better, didn't get sick as much etc. It was great! Word of warning...I would have loved to have known this 5-6 years ago just to be prepared. Adnoids grow back! My son (8) is now having issues again and possibly might have to have them removed again. I hope he doesn't but just wanted you to know that if you have it done (I do recomend it) that the issues can come back if the adnoids grow back & are still a problem. Good luck :)

Kate how was the recovery? Did she have any problems afterwards? How old is your child?

I'd do it. My daughter had all of that done and her speech and hearing improved DRASTICALLY.

I had tubes twice as a child. They are no big deal really. If the adenoids have to go I would go with what the doctor recommended, better now than later. It's something that needs to be done. They wanted to remove my adenoids too and I wish they would have because I have all sorts of problems now and I'm 36.
