Early pregnancy bleeding.

So I found out on Saturday that I'm pregnant with baby 2. Which was/is a big shock. We weren't planning on becoming pregnant until our son was 3 or 3.5... well he is only 18 months. Anyway, I had a blood test which showed I was pregnant and I had my normal yearly pap. When the doctor called she said that she thinks due to my "enlarged cervix" I could be 8 weeks. I had me period April 16th and is lasted 4 to 5 days as normal. So I don't know if 8 weeks is correct or not, yet.

I got home from work yesterday and I was spotting. There was only blood when I wiped. I was still scared and called the doctor. He said that unless I start bleeding worse, just try not to do to much and I don't have to go to the ER. Well after going outside and walking with my son, I started bleeding a little more, but not massive amounts more. So the rest of the night I took it easy. This morning, I'm bleeding like I have my period. When I called my OB office, I talked to a nurse. She seemed concerned, but not greatly, as she scheduled my appt. for this afternoon, she didn't have me rush in. Unfortunately I cannot make that appt. because my husband took the car seat and I don't have anybody to watch my son. So I called back and another nurse has me coming in at 8:35 tomorrow to get blood work, then an appt. 2 hours later. I'm just really nervous right now. I'm not really in any pain, however I have a dull pressure in my lower back and my thighs somewhat hurt. It sort of feels like when I was in labor with my son, just not painful. I had back labor with him and he was positioned behind the placenta the whole pregnancy. My sciatic nerve was acting up yesterday, which only happened during my last pregnancy at 15, 16 and 17 weeks. I do know all pregnancies are different.

With my son, I didn't know I was pregnant, went to the doctors for something else and they said I was pregnant. Come to find out when I got my ultrasound a month later I was 12 weeks 3 days, so when I found out, I was 8 weeks. I didn't have any symptoms with him nor did I have any complications/problems (except the nerve pain.) I conceived on Feb. 14th but I still had my period in March and then found out in April I was pregnant. So I had my period the first month after I was pregnant with him.

So what I'm thinking is maybe I'm not 8 weeks, I'm only like 4 weeks and I just found out I was pregnant super early, so this is just a "normal" period like I had with my son? I'm trying to be positive about it, but it's not really working. Especially knowing I have to wait until tomorrow to get checked. Is it a good thing that neither the doctor or either of the nurses were super worried?

I just need some support and/or advice. Thanks in advance.

I'm 16 & I just found out 2 weeks ago that i was pregnant. I took 2 tests & they both came out positive. I started to notice sore breasts & I was sleeping ALOT because i was always feeling tired. I am now 6 weeks & 5 days pregnant . I started having brown discharge & spotting w/ brown blood last night & it's still going on today & my pregnancy symptoms have went away. Is that a sign that i could be having a miscarriage ?

I had bleeding with my daughter, and that lower back ache. Went to hospital they did an internal and bloods which came back positive. The next day I went to my GP who also did an internal and bloods and sent me for an ultrasound. I knew I was pregnant so early that the ultrasound couldn't see the baby as she hadn't formed yet! they could see the sac that houses the baby but not her (the ultrasound put me at 4.5 weeks). So I had to wait another 2 weeks (in the meantime keeping track of my bloods/levels) at which time they could finally see her and her little heartbeat :)

Anyway, i did A LOT of googling/research in that time and found out bleeding during the early stages of pregnancy is VERY common. Something like 30% of women bleed during pregnancy and (I can't remember the exact percentage) but it was something like 15% of those go on to have normal healthy pregnancies.

Listen to your body, what is it telling you? does it feel like it is having a period (I felt like mine, after I had stopped panicking, was my body trying to have a period as it hadn't had time to recognise that there was a being growing in there) or does it feel more like there is something bad happening?

Chances are at this very early stage your body is adapting and hasn't had time to recognise it's pregnant and is trying to have a period.

GOOD LUCK and try to relax!

I'm still bleeding and it does seem like my normal period now, although slightly heavier, since I tend to have light periods. I didn't soak a pad yet, so that is good, I'm sure. I'm just super nervous about going in today. Plus I have to take my 18 month old with. I'm not cramping and the lower back pain has went away. Thanks for the advice and assurances.

I'm pregnant now (20wks) and I spotted with this pregnancy early in the beginning. I didn't with my first child though. So you're right all pregnancies are different. It sucks that there's not much you can do but, wait for the appointment tomorrow.

Are you still continually bleeding and is it accompanied with cramps?

I've also miscarried and it was constant bleeding with cramps involved.

Hi ladies. Thanks for everything. I just wanted to let everyone know (if they are still reading this) that I had my latest blood test on Friday and a nurse called yesterday and said my levels dropped more. So it is a miscarriage and I have to keep going for blood tests until my HCG level is at zero. Thanks for the support.

I went in for another pregnancy blood test. The doctor basically said that my HCG levels are low, only around 72,000. She said according to my last period date I should be five weeks and my numbers are too low for that. So she said unless I had just gotten pregnant, which could have been this past Thursday or the Thursday before, then I am probably miscarrying and I have to keep going in for blood work to see what the numbers are doing.

Ooh, I forgot until Kellie posted, I too had slight lower back pain when I was spotting. Actually before spotting and after spotting. In total it was around 3 weeks of spotting. First it was brown blood (old blood) then red (fresh) blood and then back to brown. And Kellie is right, it's VERY common, which helped ease my mind about it all too.

I had periods of really heavy bleeding early on in both my pregnancies - had early scans with both and confirmed I was still pregnant. My sister had light periods up until she was 6 months pregnant. It is possible to have this kind of bleeding and still have full-term pregnancies - my daughters are proof of that for me.

I had a crazy, odd, LONG period - 15 days to my normal 6. didn't know it, but i was apparently pregnant during that time. who knew?? I went in for my first appointment - which i thought i was about 10/12 wks [late getting in due to family funerals] and lo and behold i'm 16 wks.!!! What?? really? No way, i had a super heavy, super long period there. Eh, guess it just happens.

If they aren't worried, I wouldn't be either. They probably just said as long as you don't have painful cramping with it, it's alright. Let us know how it turns out.

At 8 weeks with this pregnancy I had HEAVY bleeding I was walking and suddenly I was in a pool of blood through my pants to my knees. I was positive I had miscarried and wouldn't get out of bed for 2 weeks. I was majorly depressed. I still felt like I was pregnant but knew there was no possible way I was. I finally went to the doctor to find out what was going on. Pregnancy tests insisted I was pregnant. The doctor tried the doppler, but I knew it was useless until we heard the heartbeat and I cried for 2 days. Bleeding early on sometimes happens and I haven't gotten a reason why that makes any sense as to why I had such heavy bleeding. I am however Due on June 19th with a healthy daughter so don't lose hope!!

All you can do is wait and see. An early scan is the only way to know for sure and a heartbeat can clearly be seen at 6 weeks. Fingers crossed for you. Try not to worry. xx
