Like Amy said, they no longer preform midline abdominal c-sections, that is very old school. They only place I still see women coming from that have them is Mexico.

I have seen emergency c-sections 1st hand, and I've seen doctors get a baby out in less than 2 minutes doing the cut above the pubic bone.

C-sections & medicine have come a long way since the abdominal c-sections of the past. What they did is very common place now & be thankful they didn't do a midline c-section.

It sounds like they did what is best for your body. As the others have said, they no longer cut upwards unless it is an extreme emergency or very abnormal situation requiring it as it does make every future birth require a C-Section. With my first, they did the cut across the pubic bones but my son was still stuck with his head in the birth canal and I was prolapsing my uterus. They nearly had to do an upside down "T" incision to get him out, until my sister in law (she was at my delivery as a nurse in training, the other nurses on staff had LEFT saying I was going to die) put her hand up the birth canal and shoved him out. It is the least desired cut there is. I live in the US.

I'm from australia I had a very emergency c section (pre eclampcia turned into eclampcia i was on the verge of fitting and bubs heart rate crashed so they had to rush me in) they only cut upwards now if they really have to eg. big baby, to much scar tissue, previouse surgeries. if you have been cut upwards then you have to have every other birth as a c section as the scar tissue it causes can make your uterus rupture (which is why they dont cut that way any more)

The tranverse cut or bikini cut is the standard incision made nowadys. A vertical cut up the abdomen is only used in certain situations such as an obese mother, an extremely time sensitive emergency, or previous trauma or surgeries in the abdomen.

I'm from Canada. I was cut above the pubic bone but my cousin and a friend have a verticle incision. They are both bigger women.

My daughter was born C-section, she was scheduled, but they also cut above my pubic bone. I don't believe they cut upwards anymore. Everyone I talk to that had a C-section had it done across the pubic bone. And I am from USA.

Im from Australia and i have mine just above my pubic bone and they used the same scar for my second. I think they have to have a reason to do them upwards in Australia. I think if you have too much scar tissue the will prefer to have an upwards c-section.

Ive had 3 c-sections 2 of them were emergency c-sections. In all of them they cut above my pubic bone as well. I agree with the previous mother, from what ive been told and read online they stopped cutting upwards years ago. Im from the USA.
