I am breast feeding, but there are times when I do not pump enough for my baby while I am at work. If I have to use formula which one is better Enfamil Lipil or Similac Advance?

FYI- The BRAND name of the formula does not matter. The FDA regulates baby formula so strictly that for each TYPE of formula (i.e. Lactose Free, Soy Based, Milk Based) the different Brands are all the SAME!

So what you need to pay attention to is what type of formula is best for your baby, not what Brand. I use the lactose sensitive formula... the Target brand, Walmart brand and Walgreens brand are all the same as the Enfamil and Similac brand. ...but way cheaper.

and ps.  Dr. Sears says that an infant's immature tummy cannot digest anything more complex than breastmilk until they are at least 6 months old.  So it should be expected that a formula fed baby will encounter digestive problems if fed formula before he/she is 6 months old.    I started formula with my little boy at 4 months... we went through constipation until I finally figured out the formula type that works best with his tummy.  (www.askdrsears.com)

depends on your child. My son was born 3 weeks early and was on Enfamil for about a month and a half untill he started to puke up blood. He was in the MGH boston childrens hospital for an almost 3 months. he went through so much pain he went under so many times as well..Just to find out that Enfamil was to strong for his body. so they put him on similac. so before you decide check with your childs doctor first.

i use similac because anything else makes my sn sick minutes after eating. but try the home brands first seeing as they cost less. every baby is different.

my first child was given Similac by the pediatrician in the Hospital. And I used that along with breastmilk until 3 weeks when I switched to bottle only and formula ( Similac) My sencond boy was a little early and stayed in the NICU for a week, I pumped but didnt have enough breastmilk, The ped, gave him Enfamil. Depends on the baby. They are all different.

as with everything in life, it depends.... as you have read, there are different reactions.....

my girl was born 8 weeks early (with only 4pounds) and the hospital gave her similac neosure from the biggining ( I had problems during the delivery, so I couldn't breathfeed); the doctor told us to keep her on 'neosure' until she was at least 10 pounds, but by that time she was already taking pumpkin and carrots in her formula....

I did found the Kirkland baby formula ( a brand carried in Costco) to be very good... side by side comparison of nutrients is similar to both enfamil and similac, but cost a lot less.... and my girl did not noticed the switch!!!!

Also, the doctor told me that similac is *known* for causing constipation....so, you may want to sonsider that too....

good luck!

I like Enfamil. My son has been on it since birth and he's doing great.

I've been using the Similac Advance and have had absolutley no problems with it. My son is almost 3 weeks old and that seems to be working well for him thus far.

My children have primarily used Similac Advanced while my godson has used Enfamil. They have no problem switching if necessary, but like he other responder said, you just have to see what the baby wants because they are essentially the same thing. I personally perfer Similac, but that is because that is what they were given at the hospital and my daughter refused to switch when she was an infant, even within the brand. If she smelled a hit of a different type of formula, she refused to eat it. My son isn't so picky thank goodness.

I have used both and honestly didn't notice a difference. I did tend to use Enfamil Lipil because they sent me coupons like crazy!

it depends what your baby can handle as i tried the enfamil with my daughter and it did not sit well with her stomach so we switched to similac sensitive and she has no problems now
