I'm planning on getting the Essure put in soon, but I was hoping to hear your pros and cons for this form of birth control. Are there any side effects? Can you feel it at all after the procedure? I had the mirena and I could always tell it was in there. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I ended up just getting my tubes tied because I had to have another surgery anyway and they said they could just do it all at one shot. Now it's five months later and I'm still very happy with the decision we made. :)

I am considering this procedure. We have 4 beautiful kids & I want something that is permanent without surgery. This is a non hormone procedure & my ob said should take only about 10 minutes. It is the most effective form of birth control.

I had to have my tubes tied due to blood clots from the birth control! It wasn't that horrible, but yes to each their own. It is a choice you and your other half are going to have to talk about. Good luck!

i've never heard of it before but the DepoVera shot is definately the best birth control i've ever used. just one shot every 13 weeks.

I can tell you that my doctor did not recommend that. I am also done having kids, and wanted to make sure that i was not going to have any more. And we talked about a lot of different options and this being one of them. It works for some people. My obgyn told me that it is a very long process, that it is several different appointments and until your body decides it wants to fully produce scare tissue around those coils you can still get pregnant! That is a chance that I was not willing to take. I have a friend that had it done and had no problems. So I think its up to the woman and her doctor what ever works best for you.

The way the Essure procedure works is they take two small (itty bitty) coils and implant them in the fallopian tubes. The body SHOULD see it as a wound and begin to scar over the coils creating a wall of scar tissue in the fallopian tubes that will block the egg from reaching the uterus. After 3-6 months a test is performed where they fill the uterus full of dye and do an ultrasound or x-ray to see if the dye goes past the Essure implants. If it does, more time is allotted to allow more scar tissue to form. If the dye stays contained within the uterus the procedure is considered a success and permanent. Most of these procedures (both the insertion and the test) are performed while the patient is awake and coherent although some doctors will knock their patients out because it can be rather uncomfortable.

I've been checking out web sites about Essure and going to talk to my OB about getting it done. I'm done having kids and my family doctor plus the OB finally agree that the different types of birth control don't work for me. So please let me know if you get any information about Essure.
