My baby has excema. I was wondering if anyone else who has a baby with excema also is allergic to pets. We have two rabbits and wonder if there is any connection between the two.

Quoting Tammy:

Hi! My daughter was born with excema over 11 years ago...we had a cat and she did not have any allergies to it. but, I will tell you how I cure her of the excema......handmade, old fashioned soap. I did research, learned how to make soap the old fashioned way with lye and oils...that child does not have any excema anymore...and hasnt since. And now she uses anything she buys at the store. If you cant make it...find a place that sells unscented lye soap.

You can buy lye soap at all Cracker Barrel restaurants. To find out where the closet Cracker Barrel is go to www.crackerbarrel.com   they have a 800# you can call also.  Hope this helps JoAnn

Our youngest grandson was born lactose intolerant and had pet allergies. We began giving him this seaweed extract when he was 2 months old by putting into his bottle. He thrived on it and we noticed that the symptoms of the allergies were going away. We have never stopped giving him this seaweed extract. He is now six years old and he can eat dairy of any kind and he has a cat and a dog in his house. Giving a child nourishment is essential to their health and to our health. Every disease and every ailment is connected to a nutrient deficiency. Let me know if you want more information.

Angie,

I understand what you mean about allergies and eczema my 5 year old grandson and 3 month old granddaughter use to suffer with it as well. I found a company that has products that help with allergies and eczema and they are extremely safe for the baby and the whole family. The products are 30 to 40% less expensive than store brands, and work great and our allergies and the eczema are a lot better since using these products. For more details please call me at 704-326-5065 ask for Annette or visit this website and request more information:www.livetotalwellness.com/annetter. Good luck with whatever discussion you make.

FISH OIL!! Start looking at food allergies that may irritate or make it worse, like dairy or gluetan. Start her on fish oil and a probiotic. It may not fix it, but it will help!

My husband is a Dr. and we have 5 children, and 5 of us have allergies.  Excema is definitely linked to allergies.  It would be hard to tell if it is being caused from the rabbits without testing, which you would not want to do on such a young baby.  It can be treated best by applying Eucerin cream after every bathing, within 5 minutes after toweling dry.  Appy all over body and rub in as best you can.  My 4 yr. old calls it "putting the icing on the cake".  The very irritated spots can be treated with hydrocortisone cream- very small amount rubbed in very well- applied twice a day for up to 3- 4 days.

My 2 yr old son and my 4 month old daughter both have eczema. My sons was horrible when he was an infant. We have a dog and a cat and they do not bother it at all. We actually found that his eczema flares up very badly on his face when he is teething. It would horrible. We also switched our laundry detergent. We use Cheer Free and Gentle, although I hear All has a hypoallergenic detergent that works well....cheer works for us. We also use Downy Free and Sensitive...the liquid kind. We can't use dryer sheets at all or his eczema will flare up. My pediatric dermatologist told me to limit his baths when he was yound too so not to dry his skin any more. My son can use any soap now, but for the longest time we couldn't use any soap on his skin. My daughter seems to have the same issues with eczema on her face. It seems to be flaring occasionally after bath time so I'm not using soap on her anymore. I've tried several different soaps and nothing is gentle enough on her skin. My son who is almost 3 now has 2 small patches of eczema on his inside of the elbow and knee. No where else and when I say small I mean less than a dime size. When it gets flared up I use Aveeno hydrocortisone cream which seems to help. I also have a stronger ointment that the pediatric dermatologist gave me when he was an infant, but it is an adult strength steroid cream. I don't use that unless he is really having a problem. After 1 application of that it disappears for about a week.

We don't have any pets, but my daughter has ezcema.  Other than the ezcema she's been very healthy, both my husband and I were sick this winter but she hasn't been.  We took her to the hardware store and saw the rabbits and baby chicks and we had no problems.  She was even born 6 weeks early, so I don't think there is a connection.

My son who is now 26 had terrible excema from birth through about 14 . He had all kinds of allergy testing done and all came back negative as well as he does not have asthma. Every now and then, he'll have a break out on his hands but nothing close to what he had as a little guy. I don't know what they are prescribing these days for the topical treatment but when he was little, hyrocortisone (sp?) was prescribed. If that's still what they prescribe, be sure to follow the directions very carefully. Due to overuse, he now has some spots on his body and face that don't tan! Good luck to you..

My children don't have any allergies, but my sister is 10 years younger than me, and I remember her having LOTS of allergies and health problems. She had excema, asthma, hayfever, etc, etc. You name it, she had it!

She loved to be outside with our dog and cat. They were outside only pets, but she just wanted to be with them. As soon as she could crawl, she was outside with them. She was hospitalised 3 or 4 times before she turned 1 with asthma attacks! She had very bad skin,  very dry skin, and couldn't use certain soaps.washing powder etc...

It might have something to do with your washing powder/liquid. Try a different one and see if that changes anything.

Hope that helps!
