My four and a half month old son has recently learned the art of fake coughing. My fiance has been sick lately so he has been coughing a lot so I know that's where my son learned it. Now I just need him to stop. Any suggestions?

I know it doesn't do any harm to HIM it's just that I don't get any sleep because of it.

it doesn't do any harm. when chloe does it (18 months) we go 'oh dear has that juice got obnes in it?' or just ignore it. usually she only does it after a real cough or sneeze. so if she has genuinely coughed on her drink she'll follow it with 3 or 4 fakes because she likes the attention, it doesn't occur to her to do it randomly anymore. she has to sort of remind herself that she can do it. it happens really infrequently now, when she was younger it was all the time.

Well that kinda stinks. I can of course tell the fake coughing apart from the real coughing. It's just annoying because he does it when I'm sleeping. I haven't gotten much sleep lately because he keeps waking me up with his coughing or baby talk. And he won't stop until I wake up and play with him until he tires out and goes back to sleep but by then of course I can't go back to sleep.

My son learned it at pry 6ish months too & at a year & a half he still does it when someone else does. It's just funny to all of us & you can definitely tell a real cough from a fake one..soo I'd just play along with it too.

My son learned the fake cough at about 6 months, and everytime someone coughs he does too....he just thinks its a game, and i don't think there is any way of making him stop.....sometime i just play along with it and keep coughing to see how long he will cough back at me....its too funny....and when he really does cough, you will be able to tell the if it is real or fake......
