I have had Fibromyalgia for about 7 years. I am not expecting my first child and starting to feel the effects of it. My OB doesn't know much about it. I know a lot but not while being pregnant...Any suggestions?

Mine got a lot less intense the futher I got along in my pregnancy. I am pregnant again and the pain is decreasing. I don't like taking medications if I don't have too, so I just toughed it out. Mine did get worse after birth but I breastfeed so I didn't take anything afterwards either. Just try to avoid stress and get plenty of rest.

I have had fibromyalgia for 9 years. I actually had less pain while I was pregnant. My issue was with my restless legs and that was horrible b/c I couldn't take any medication. My fibromyalgia seemed a lot more manageable during my preg and my neurologist believes it was from the increase in progesterone and other hormones. I took tylenol and bendryl throughout my pregnancy per doctor's orders to try to manage the legs and sleep variations. After I gave birth, I began having increase bouts of sensitivity and pain and the fibro attacks have been more frequent. Good luck with your pregnancy.

Most times its best to get a referral from your primary physician. Most GYN's don't want to get involved with conditions of this matter only because they really don't know. Your GYN should have informed you to go to your primary physician and get a referral.

Any medical conditions involved are scary when pregnant, but in my opinion trust that your body knows what it's doing. To be honest, with me, my doctor told me to have an abortion when I was about four months along with my now four month old daughter- because of my medical conditions. But PRAISE GOD all went well!

Thanks Angie I figured there was much I could do...lol...I am a tough cookie so hopefully I will be ok. I currently go to the gym for body strengthning exercises to keep my body strong so hopefully that will help also.

I had fibromyalgia during all three of my pregnancies. All I can say, it tough it out. I tried not to gain more than the recommended weight and keep my stress level down. I also did water aerobics to keep me healthy. Beyond that, there's not a lot you can do.
