My son will be a year old 3 weeks from saturday and i still have no idea what we are doing for his "party".....i don't really have much money to spend on it, but would still like to celebrate with family and friends....any suggestion would be great.....thanks

We did speghetti, salad and cake for my daughter's first birthday. It was just family and close friends. The first birthday is more for the parents anyhow. One thing I've learned is to make it short and sweet as they still tire down fairly easily that young. You don't have to spend a fortune to make it a good day. Just having the people that are close to you and your family will make it special! =)

we did a park party. I had to reserve the space cause it was summer but I imagine depending on where you are and the weather, just have a picnic or bbq and potluck it. Have friends and family bring food to share and show up at a park. Kids love to play and swing so its built in entertainment for all ages and its free, best of all no clean up for guests! Depending on your fam your lil one will get plenty of gifts and has not much idea what's going on anyway. You can get by not getting him something and like someone else said cupcakes are good as cake! Just be happy and he will have a great time!

Make a nice birthday cake, invite close friends and family and have what we call a "sausage sizzle" (bbq some sausages, put them in a hot dog bun with ketchup and mustard) Easy and inexpensive.

I think 1st birthdays are overrated. Honestly it is for the family not the child. Get a pizza, make some cupcake and invite the fam over.
