My son is 5 months old and he cut his first tooth about a week ago. He use to sleep half way decent. Now, he wakes up about every 2 hours. I started him on cereal and that dosen't seem to help at all. I am a single mom that has a 50+hour a week job and what sleep i do get is very important. Any suggestions?

Like Bev says, I'd recommend giving him some teething tablets and a little baby motrin to help take the edge off. Also, at night, bath him in a warm bath, and massage his little body with some bedtime bath lotion. That'll relax him enough that he might be able to doze off and stay that way for awhile. Good luck darlin!

Ive been using the salts too, gel and nurofen to help Wil. Its not a nice time for them. I'd say teething is the issue. Wil has got his two bottom teeth and they came thru within 2 weeks of each other. What country are you in? If Australia we have an awesome gel thats in Adelaide.

He's probably cutting more teeth. My daughter's always came in twos... She's 14mo old, and has 10 teeth! ((Just a warning, the molars and canine's are the worst so far)). Teeth usually push thru more at night, hence the waking up. Try the teething tablets, I have not used them, but I do know they work for a lot of people. I honestly, knock on wood, haven't had that bad a time with my daughter teething, so I haven't used them. Also, there are mesh feeders (available at most retailers) that are safe for babies because nothing can get thru them that will hurt baby... I would put ice cubes in it for my daughter to suck on... seemed to ease the pain a lil, and kept her busy. I love the mesh feeders, they're wonderful! After she was a lil older, we put frozen fruits and popcicles in there. Good luck! I hope the replies on here help. If all else fails, talk to baby's doctor...

I agree with bev!Because they sell the teething tablets at walmart and they all are herbal so they don't hurt your child!I used to use orijel but my 4 daughters didn't like the taste very well!My mom used to rub ice cold peppermint schnopps on our gums but don't recommend it since it been years that she did that!

Hylands teething tablets...Walmart carries them....and I swear by them..I have 4 kids and have used them with all of my children. They are natural and wont harm your baby, and they taste sweet so the baby will like them, and is way better than Oral gel. They helped my kids with there teething pain, and then they where able to sleep :) Also is the baby sleeping in the same room as you? With my children I had to move them out of the room with me because I was tossing and turning and the noise would wake them up, a larger feeding at night can be helpful right before bed. As can a swaddle blanket...Target carries larger versions for older babies..and my children sleep much better as infants when swaddled tightly...hop this helps you and good luck on getting some sleep:) Try the teething tablets....Love them, and using them on m,y baby right now too:)

Tylenol works wonders for a good night sleep. There is also some over the counter stuff - Ambisol? maybe? Ask your pharmicist. Best wishes for a good night sleep!

Maybe the cereal is upsetting his tummy at night. He could also still be having issues with teething. My 7 mo wakes up through the night but he cosleeps so usually a quick cuddle is all it takes to get him back down. This definitely helps me get some shut eye.

I know this sucks, but unfortunately, you probably have more sleepless nights ahead. Your little one is probably working on cutting his 2nd tooth as well. I gave my baby all natural teething tablets (ask your pharmacist) which seemed to comfort him somewhat. When I knew he was teething, I'd give him a dose of tylenol or infant motrin before bed to help with the pain - less pain meant more sleep. Best of luck to you!
