Formula in a sippy cup?

well i went out lastnight and got him a newer sippy cup that allows him to drink easier, he LOVES it may mix a little bit of heinz baby apple juice in with the formula this weekend, we will see how it goes!

I don't see any reason why you couldn't do that! Most moms have such a hard time getting their childern off the bottle....I'd also maybe start putting some watered down juice in the sippy cup too. I had all my kids off their bottles and on a sippy cup by 9-10 months and on whole milk!!

Yea! My daughter will still take her bottle, but I use the sippy cup when we're at home just to try to get her used to it, so maybe we can get off the bottle sooner

I say the sooner you can transition to a sippy cup me the better and way to go on doing it at 4 1/2 months, my son would have no part in it until 10 months!

my son is nearly 10 mnths n he onli has the bottle of a nite tym he has basically taken himself of the bottle n dummy i never put formula in his cup but i no of a gurl that does i dnt see any harm in it u culd also try sum water jus warm it up a bit or mayb sum diluted baby juice it all depends

Our pediatrician and WIC both say that you should give them everything in a sippy cup, not even start with a bottle.  Then you never have to wean them!

if r child is happy in what he is doing then i would go for it, easy for u as he's tuck is self off the bottle as you do get sum babieswhat wont entertain sippy cups and its even better for is teeth when they come through. good luck.xx

My son REFUSED to take a bottle, so it was mommy or nothing. At around 4 months I introduced the sippy cup, first with water. My son is now 8 months old and I also give him braset milk when he's with grandpa and grandma and juice. They reccommend that if your child has teeth, give them a little water afterwards  to prevent cavities. I have tried a lot of sippy cups and so far the Dr. browns seems to work best. It's a little pricy, but the spout is a soft rubber and thinner. The cup it's self is pretty light weight also. Hope this helps.

i would go for it!!! It would be less of a hastle when you want to wean your baby off a bottle which drs say should happen around a year... some babies have a hard time doing it. I'd say whatever your baby wants do it!

my daughter Breastfed and rarely used bottles. Only when she was babysat. I started giving her a sippy cup for her at around that same age. She did wonderful and actually just loved and still does water in hers.

He has a pacifier, sucks his thumb, puts a sippy cup in his mouth, sucks on our fingers, just does not like the bottle. I think he is just a strong breastfeeder and the types of bottles I have bought and the nipples on them are weird to him. I do not want to "starve" him in order for him to drink from the bottle....I think I will just continue to breastfeed :)

As a professional who specializes in feeding and swallowing I would recommend trying a different bottle first - a wide neck or switching from a latex to a silicone nipple (or vice versa). If that doesn't work, try a straw cup. Is his refusal to take a bottle new? Does your son refuse other things in his mouth? This could be a sign of sensory defensiveness.

We transitioned our daughter from a bottle to sippy cup with her milk in it. She loves it. Better than a bottle for their teeth.

I did it with both my kids... My only suggestion is to make sure you clean it out as soon as they are done. The formula goes bad and can really get gross.. I had to throw a cup away because it rolled under the couch... (I forgot about it :/ ) It was at the point of no return. good Luck!!

Yup! No reason to use a bottle if he doesn't care for it. Just use the same precautions as you would for a bottle...make sure leftover formula/milk is refrigerated and then discarded after an hour...blah blah blah. :)
