from 3 short naps to one long nap

Is there anyway I can get my 8 month old to take one long nap for a couple hours in the afternoon instead of the 30-60 min naps he takes every couple of hours? It's just a little frustrating when I want to do something and I have to wait for him to take a nap. And I don't want to keep him awake because then he gets over tired and cranky and is even harder to put down for a nap. Is there anything I can do to get him down to one nap or do I just have to wait till he decides to do it on his own?

Ya, hmmm. It always messed up Ariel's(my eldest) schedual when she was ill or teething. I'm not sure there's much you can do about it. But I do wish there was.

He did ok skipping his morning nap a couple days last week and waiting till after lunch to pass out, but he didn't sleep for very long. He slept from about 11:30 till 1, but woke up every 15-20 minutes screaming and I had to soothe him back to sleep. He's teething so I think that's what's bothering him. So keeping him up till after lunch isn't really a problem, but he doesn't stay asleep. This morning he slept from 10 till almost 11:30, then crashed again at 1:30 for about 45 minutes, then skipped his before dinner nap. It would be great if he slept from 12-2! So how do I get him to stay asleep?

You can indeed, change his schedual. The first few days he will cry alot though. But after that, you're good. My daughter went from three naps to one 2 and a half to 3 hour nap in just a few days, She 2 and a half and actually still sleeps just as long :). Which works out GREAT seeing as though I'm only a little over two weeks from my due date and need the extra sleep. He will slowly eliminate his naps though if you do want to wait. Good luck :)

Adjust his schedule. Spend more time moving around in daylight, stay busy through the first nap, not to far from home or someplace where he can crash for a full length nap when you've both had enough of his crankiness. Because he will get cranky.

I'm a SAHM and I am always busy during the day, my housework used to come last, so we'd be busy all day, come home around 2, baby would crash out and I'd clean house, vacuum first - they're so tired they sleep through it,

I loved having 2 - 3 hours to myself. Housework didn't take that long and I had time to read or do a hobby project or at least look longingly at a project before putting away!
