Funny posts?

Hi I am new to the circle and I don't want to make anybody mad, But It sounds like to me what ever it was that you said wasn't even worth a reply. And they just wanted to end a debate(which it sounds like you really like to do). No disrespect I love argueing a good topic, but I don't get upset when others avoid it.

Your logic stands for using the post comments at all... why not just tell someone in a post that you think that their post is "helpful" or "encouraging" or "nice" instead of just marking it thus? Probably because it takes up too much time and gets in the way of the conversation.

Like I said earlier, if someone is following you around debating with you and then marking all of your posts as funny, complain to a moderator. That is harassment. But if it just happens a few times, shrug it off. As you say, we're all adults. And trust me, if you want to enjoy COM you'll have to learn to let some things that you just don't like slide. There are some rather immature women on here, you will see far worse than this.

I just think that seeing all the nasty things people say to each other on here, marking someone's posts as funny is not so big a deal. I'd rather someone mocked me in that way, and yes, it has happened to me several times too, than started verbally attacking me because they disagreed. If it was a constant thing from the same person, I would suggest complaining to the moderators. In my time on COM I've seen people say some truly horrible things to one another, to rude and cruel to repeat. Being slightly mocked just doesn't seem that bad in comparison, IMO. I reserve the "funny" mark for posts that make me laugh. But who knows, the poster might not have meant to be funny. It's hard to tell.

Well generally it IS a compliment, but when someone has started debating you and you defend yourself.. If THAT'S when they mark your posts as funny, it generally means they are mocking you b/c they don't agree. And that's why I said if they have something to say, they should just say it. It's like the coward's way out, I think. I have marked posts as funny, but ONLY if they make me laugh and I agree with what they are saying.

I only mark posts funny if they ARE funny. They have to make me giggle or snicker to get the funny mark.

That is what the button is for isn't it? I don't think its your fault or the fault of the person marking the post for finding a reply funny. Maybe you took it seriously, but someone else found it comical.

Is this really a BIG issue? I rarely look at those notifications for other people. If I found it funny, I might look to see how many others found it funny but beyond that I don't really care.

I try to give newbies more marks to encourage additional posts. I also have a tendency to give my circle more marks, more because I recognise them as I'm reading and pay a bit more attention to what they are saying.

Jodi, if it continues, I'll turn it in. So far they have only marked two, but they are doing it to mock me. Right now it's whoever seems to want to debate me. It doesn't necessarily bother me at this point. I just feel that if they have something to say about my response, they should just say it.

I have never had this happen to me...i just respond. I've never done it to anyone either...never knew people were even doing this for that fact...seems kind of funny in itself becuase it is very cowardly. Speek up, we are all adults for crying out loud!

Carol, I do not think that I am being too sensitive. I just think that if you don't agree with someone, tell them why. Don't just mock them.

Christina, if it is the same person following you around the boards marking your posts as "funny", they are actually harrassing you. Its different if it is just random. I know there has been someon before who was deliberately doing this to people - that would be your stalker Laura!!

I'm not too sure what the big deal about this is. I've seen others complaining about the same thing too. I've marked posts as funny when I think that they are too dumb to bother responding to, or that the poster just wants a flame war. Although I would agree that if someone attacks you, and then marks your defense as funny is rather lame. If they are going to bother to start the argument, they should have the decency to continue it. But I think that we should try not to be too oversensitive on here. We all have different ways that we each like to express ourselves, it's best to just roll with the punches or this site will make us miserable.
