Gagging and vomitting - 8 mth old

I really want to know if there are others who had been the same? My daughter is so unpredictable - she loves banana shake - but one fine day - she would gag on it and then forcefully vomit everything out - she has done the same with veggies too - she will eat it willingly n then vomit all out at the end - she burps a lot too - and sometimes its a burp which gets all out - am so confused with her pattern - any suggestions are welcomed!! Please help!!

It sounds to me like she is texture sensitive. Banana shake can be quite thick and feel gluggy in your mouth. Texture sensitive babies often have good days and bad days and go through phases where a food they used to eat suddenly makes them gag. With the vegies I would suggest that she has a strong gag reflex (common with texture sensitivity) and that one of the vegies touches the back of her toungue or roof of her mouth and that makes her vomit. Does that sound like what is happening?

I dont think that there is much you can do about it. I think you just have to continue to give her pureed or strained food of a runnyish consistency and no lumps and try her with something a bit thicker or lumpier every now and then until she can tolerate it. I believe texture sensitivity often improves when they start eating finger food and is something they grow out of.

Just my thoughts, I might be wrong.

she loves all sorts of veggies and fruits - as long as its strained - we also got her upper GI done and its normal - she is on mylanta for gas - and hence its so frustrating - why does she do that to the same food eaten before just fine!!

Maybe her tummy isnt ready for anything like that yet. I started my daughter at 5 months and she hasn't have a problem but maybe its producing like acid reflux or something like that. Does she cry when she pukes or burps it back up? My daughter doesn't like fruits and she would eat it then throw it back up so i stopped fruits and she doesn't do it with the veggies, maybe she just doesn't like the veggies at all. Wait a few weeks and try again. Hope I've helped!
