Hi, needing some help! my son is 4 1/2 and has been potty trained during the day for 2years but is still in pull ups during the night. Have limited his drinks (has his last drink with dinner about 7pm) but his pull up is still saturated in the morning. Any tips????

My oldest finally stopped just before he turned 6. My middle one is almost 5, and he soaks the pullup at night still, so we keep it. He's a deep sleeper, so the Dr has told us he'll just not realize he has to go. It just takes time.

My daughter is 4 years 6 months and I can't seem to get her trained and with the pull ups she takes them off! once she has gone for a wee before bed time, so I had to get the waterproof matress protectors and my son 3 seems to have a dry pull up most mornings and strangely he actually drinks more that his sister does before bed. both have been daytime potty trained for ages.

I have two boys and the first was easy. The second 5 yrs is having the same problem. We just recently stopped the pull-up again at night and he is now down to just wetting once time. When we tried this at 4 he would pee 3 times in a night. He just was not ready. We are going to try to see if he stops the one time if not we will try again later. I was told by the doctor that boys take longer and it does seem to run in our family.

Children's bodies mature at different rates and it is not unusual for a child to need protection during the night up to the age of 7 or even older.  It all depends on their bladder capacity.  You may want to check it out with your doctor to rule out any other issues.  I have a friend who takes her son to the bathroom just before she goes to bed around 10:30, and she hears him go again at 5:30 in the morning.  Also, if he is a deep sleeper, it may be harder for him to rouse himself if he has the urge.

Yes I agree pull-ups can make it easy for them. Since we moved A LOT, my daughter only went off night time pull-ups at 3.5 years. I told her she'd have to stop using them, I gave her the last drink about 2 hours before sleep time, made her go to toilet right before bed time, placed a mattress protector under her sheets. She gradually stopped wetting the bed in a couple of weeks. It is inevitable she'd wet the bed so I was prepared. At the time we had another bed in her room so when she wet her bed, I simply moved her and dealt with the wet bed in the morning. I also didn't put pj pants on her, just the nappy and shirt, so there's less soaking. Some nights she wet both beds so I had a thick blanket handy - the last thing she wanted was to be fussed over in the middle of her sleep. All the best.

Quoting Jacquie:

we get ours up b4 we go to bed to take him to the washroom, hang on tight so they don't take a header in the toilet.

but sometimes I've heard with boys you just have to wait til their bladders grow, we had a relative who wet the bed til he was 10, important to make a big issue about it and deal with it the best you can, mattress protection and pull ups.

good luck

oops left a word out, its important to NOT make a big issue about it!

I had no trouble with my first. I realised that because she had the pullup on she was being lazy and just wetting because she could. I had about a week where i had to change the bed a few times but then she caught on. My second however is just a wee machine and i am having a hard time with her. I have just got a mat for her bed which holds about 2 lt of fluid and will start with her not wearing her pull up. dont know how it will go but will give it a try. Just know that sometimes pull up make it just a little too easy for them. Good luck

HI HALLEY ,

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY DAUGHTERS .

I USED TO PUT THEM TO BED THEN 1 HOUR LATER I WOULD GET THEM UP TO THE TOILET THEN GET THEM UP AGAIN BEFORE I WENT TO BED AND MOST OF THE TIME THEY ARE DRY IN THE MORNING ANOTHER THING YOU CAN USE IS A KYLIE BED SHEET WHICH IS FOUND IN THE NURSERY SECTION AT KMART IT HAS A WATERPROOF SECTION IN WHICH THEY LAY ON THEN THE COTTON MATERIAL SIDES TUCK UNDER THE MATRESS AT LEAST IF THEY DO WET THEY WAKE COZ THEY ARE UNCOMFORTABLE I HAVE FOUND THIS TO WORK GOODLUCK JENNI
