Good babysitters?

How did you find your current babysitter that you just adore and trust that is not a family member? Did you go online, recruit a teacher at child's daycare (if that's ethical?), word of mouth? Just looking for some advice on the best way to go about this. Thanks.

We recently started using one of the girls in the youth group at our church (one of the older girls; she's 18 and graduating this year). We knew her to be responsible, and before she baby sat, she came over and spent the evening with us; had dinner, went through William's bedtime routine and all that. William was able to bond with her, and so we were comfortable leaving him with her, and everything went well the first time she baby sat.

If you're in Canada there's a great online resource called CanadianSitters.ca (http://www.canadiansitter.ca/). You can find qualified babysitters that are in your area many who are university and college students studying early childhood education. If you're not in Canada, there may be something similar in your area.
I usually interview a few and see how they interact with my children. I always check their references and with CanadianSitters, parents can post testimonials and rate the babysitters.

I would love to see responses on this one. I am struggling with the same issue.
