Good finger foods for a 9 month old?

She's had her teething cookies, crackers, a few hotdog pieces cut up, the odd french fry, corn... but she still seems to have a bit of a challenge picking things up and getting it to her mouth. Any thoughts on other foods that might make this easier for her?

Sorry forgot that my family uses frozen fruit wrapped in a cloth and tied so that bubs can suck on it a sooth teeth at the same time.

I used to boil little peices of chicken and beef strips, lots of beans, avocado, steamed carrots and mostly chopped fruit. Try to avoid the hot dogs they really do damage to such a young digestive system. I found it kind of fun making miniature meals. Good luck!

No worried with the hotdogs!  My "coins" are cut up into at least 4 pieces!!

Please try to stay away from Gerber products - they are full of preservatives and sugars. Go organic! and offer fresh or steamed fruits and veggies first, then pastas and breads. Actually, it is recommended to hold off on wheat products until they are close to 1 year old to discourage allergies to gluten.

My son loves toast with jam in the morning i slice them long enough for him to grab and he just sucks on them till he get a piece off. he loves it and sits there for a long time sucking those down.

I used to cute nutragrain bars into to cubes and both kids loved that....you can also cube cheese fruit pretty much anything that way you can decide the size of food she is getting :)

Absolutely! Children were eating long before the smooshy baby food industry existed. Just make it small peices and not anything crunchy. My son gummed a steak to death when he was 5 months old! Just watch them for choking. He is now 5' 10 " and healthy. He ate normal food from that day forward.

My son is 9.5 months old and he is eating what we call cheerios (kinda like a cocktail sausage) split down the middle. He also eats sliced pear, mouse traps, toast, baby pizza, crackers with cream cheese, frozen peas,carrots and corn, roasties (potatoes, kumara, carrots cut into cubes and roasted), eggs (hard boiled or scrambled), sandwiches, savoury muffins, cooked pasta, as well as many fruit and veges (like mandarins, apples, avocado etc). You have quite a variety to choose from but you do need to watch them when they are eating regardless of what is given...

well i strarted giving my daughter finger food around the same time n she ate everything from hot dogs to toast to gerber cheetos n fruit snacks..she ate everything..the pasta pickup that they sell at walmart would also b very good for her to eat they have veggies n everything in them give them a try..

the sweet potato graduates things from gerber are amazing and the yogurt bites! cheerio's are good and also bananas... my daughter is a big fan of the gerber products

I would try to avoid hot dogs if possible, they are a huge choking hazard. My baby likes cheerios, bite sized pieces of fruit (peaches, cooked apples, pears), bite sized pieces of toast, and soft pieces of well cooked pasta, like macaroni noodles especially. Is she in daycare? or at home? You could serve her those types of finger-foods and maybe one meal a day let her do most of the feeding. It will be messy, but it really helps independence.

Cooked baby carrots are great! Pretzel sticks (unsalted) and watermelon pieces are easy to handle too.

I bought my little boy a cool gadget to help him find his mouth easier..i cant remember the name of it though! It has a nice chunky plastic handle with a net attached to it that you can put the food into. im sure if you look at the baby ailse in your supermarket they will have one, i got mine in sainsburys but toys r us also do them. you can put just about anything in them. banana worked well as its nice and soft and came through the net easily but he also managed apple, pear and melon! it gives you piece of mind that they wont choke too as they have to mush it up in order for it to come through the net. if you use one of these though, a word of advice - get a coloured net! the whote ones stain easily and look grubby quickly!
