The only thing that will help is time. The discoloration will fade over time but they will never disappear. Like a pp said they are a scar and act just like any other scar. I was told by a doc (for a surgical scar when I was younger) that putting vitamin E oil on a fresh scar will help. It reduces the discoloration so it will become less visible. He also said that lots of exposure to the sun(tanning) won't help them disappear/hide them. They skin cells are damaged just like with any other scar and don't produce melanin like the normal surrounding skin. So tanning can actually cause them to be more noticeable.

I was told when i was pregnant to use vitamin E oil. I rubbed that on my belly for 7 fricken months and just ended up stinking like a fish. Still have stretch marks 19 years later.

I know mederma works on burn and cut scars, but i've never thought to try it on my stretch mark scars.

If you find something, post it! LOL

Well, hun.. It's time to face the music. Stretch marks do not go away. They are scars and like any other scar, they will fade over time but will always be visible from one angle or another.

If you try creams or oils, you run the risk of losing a lot of money for something that's likely NOT going to work.

You could try laser removal, but that can leave scars. Why risk getting scars when you're trying to remove them? Not to mention, it's a costly procedure.

Stretch marks happen when there's a break in the collagen and elastin. They won't go away for good. But they will fade.. Over time. Sometimes it can take a few months, sometimes a year or more. It depends on how bad the damage was, really.

A friend of mine had heard from someone that tanning will hide stretch marks.. I love her to death, but she's orange in an attempt to hide them.

So really, your choice is basically embrace them like a battle scar or try to hide them in shame and look like an oompa loompa.

A strech mark is just like a run in panty hose, but it is your skin, you cant fix it. Welcome to your new mommy body. I am 5ft tall and my 2nd baby was 10lbs & 22 inches, she worked like a tissue expander for my stomach & gave me an abdominal hernia to boot. After all is said and done I have a good 2 inches of extra skin on my belly from it, and my 6 pack abds will look like I'm 4 months pregnant unless I opt for surgery. I have a curtain of skin that hangs down.

I too am having problems coming to terms with this, but I just tell myself this is my new mommy body.

@Jessie Rhodes.. When I got pregnant w/ my son, I was slim also, and a teenager. Just letting you know, I used Palmer's Cocoa Butter for stretch marks RELIGIOUSLY when I was pregnant. And up until my 7th month, I only had a couple stretch marks. After my 7th month, however, my stomach was full of them, regardless of me using that lotion several times a day. I did gain lots of weight, but most of the weight I had gained was in my 4th and 5th months, so if the stretch marks were from weight, it wouldn't have waited so long.
