My husband and I both work as autocad drafters, and we are required to put in 50 hours a week. I also do housecleaning on the side occasionally on the weekends...I've done the cleaning for 5 years now. My youngest son is geting ready to start kindergarten, and my oldest son is going into middle school. I really feel that i need to be home after school to monitor what my 2 oldest are doing and this would also save us on daycare for the youngest...not to mention I just dont get to spend enough time with them! So I'm thinking of opening up my own cleaning service...Also I was thinking of using only "green cleaning products"..since they are better for you, but I know some people are still in the mindset that if you dont use bleach it isnt clean...what do you think? should I try the "green" cleaning only, or offer both or what? is this something that you would get for your family?

Hi Heather,

I am so happy to see that you are using vinegar and baking soda in your own home, that's awesome!! But I know what you mean about some people not liking the smell of vinegar, not to mention that that is a lot of lugging and mixing on your part LOL. Isn't it strange how people don't like the smell of vinegar but don't mind the stench of bleach? I guess the bleach sniffing all these years for them has killed off a few million brain cells LOL. I know what you are talking about with some of the "green" cleaners not working so well, either, and its a bummer when you hope that it will work, and instead you are getting a real workout and sweating by trying to clean with them:(

Well, like I said before, I am not a saleswoman, but I do set up wholesale accounts with a green wholesale shopping company called Melaleuca, have you heard of them? It is like a Sam's or Costco only you don't have to buy in bulk and you can shop from home.

I actually found them as an alternative to the harsh chemicals that I was using around my daughter who had pretty severe asthma. I wanted to find replacements for the Lysol and Chlorox wipes that I used on a daily basis, and I was so incredibly surprised to find how well the products worked, especially the Sol-u-gaurd botanical disinfectant which is the only truely green disinfectant on the market and approved by the EPA. Another favorite of mine is the Tub N Tile, which I am sure that you probably use lemons too, this has about the equivilant of 20 lemons in one bottle, and knocks rust and hard water spots dead, without all of the harmful fumes, or having to acutally sqeeze all of those lemons.

If you would like more information on the wholesale pricing sheet or how to try out the products for yourself for free, give me a call, my phone number is 909.795.2355. These will be great for your business, and save your pocketbook, and your health at the same time. Oh and did I mention 100% empty bottle guarantee on all of their almost 400 products? They rock!

Hope to hear from you soon!!

Well I do not know if this will help but being a biology professor and on a green team we use it and promote it. It works well and since it is recycled material to store it and all organic material to make it, it is very "green"
Home made laundry soap
obtain a used clean 5 gallon bucket the kind paint comes in
grate one bar of ivory soap or any other soap that is pure soap none of that fancy stuff like dove or irish springs
put the grated soap in 4 cups of hot water and heat on the stove until the soap is completely melted be careful and do not walk away from it when it starts to boil it will foam and get messy if you are not careful
put the soap mixture in the bucket and add 1 cup of borax ( laundry aisle) and 1/2 cup of baking soda
add more hot water and stir until the mixture is dissolved completely
fill the bucket with water and if you want you can put some essential oils in for smell it will not effect the soap working and will add a nice smell to everything.
cover the bucket and let set overnight
tada soap use about 1/4-1/2 cup per load of laundry it is okay to use in HE machines as this soap will not get foamy
I use this stuff to clean everything from bathrooms to kitchen floors and yes it is the best laundry soap I have ever used. I like the ease of use I just dunk a cleaning rag in the bucket ring it out and start cleaning. It will not leave a residue if you use it to dust and like I said if you put essential oils in it it smells great as well. Not to mention it is cheap to make ends up being about $2 for 5 gallons. Try it it is great stuff!!!

I would love to know what company you get your cleaning supplies through. I've looked into different companies, but i've heard a lot of the "green" cleaners are not much better....I know there's good ones out their its just hard to know which ones to use...I make my own at home, and I use a lot of vinegar and baking soda, but I dont know how well that would go over using it as cleaner in other peoples houses, especially since a lot of people dont like the smell of vinegar...so i think I will definitely have to find a good line of cleaners...

Good for you Heather for taking the initiative and brainstorming a way to earn some extra $$$. Even better is wanting to use green cleaning products. More and more people are really looking to replace the products in their homes to Eco-friendly products. Most cleaning products that you find at the stores are riddled with chemicals that are known to have horrible side effects such as Carcinogens (cancer causing), respiratory issues like asthma, neurological issues such as headaches, memory loss, fatigue, coma and even death, and all are without even swallowing them, just by breathing them or having them in contact with your skin. So by going green in your business, it would not only appeal to your customers, but also preserve your own health, so that you can be a great mom for a long time. Have you started shopping for some of the green cleaning products? Most are pretty pricey, I know because I am always cost comparing with the company that I shop with. I usually pay no more than about $1.30 for a 24 oz squirt bottle, and the entire line of cleaning products really do rock. I am not a salesperson with this company, just love shopping with them, so if you would like to know more about their products and super reasonable prices, please feel free to message me. Good luck with your business!
