False positives are very rare. False negatives are much more common.

I'd have my doctor do a blood pregnancy test. Then you will know for sure and won't have to wait 3 weeks. Are you having pregnancy symptoms? I didn't need a test to tell me that I was pregnant. I knew. But, I have also had a chemical pregnancy which is a miscarriage that occurs before an ultrasound can confirm it. Good luck to you.

i had a positive i took like 3 then the health department said i was too then i just felt like i wasnt pregnant so i took another one and it came back negitive

Some women's hormone levels are easier to read then others, some you can tell very very early on that they are pregnant and others, not for a long time. I was the opposite, I took 3 at home tests and a blood test all came back negative. I went for an ultrasound (thinking it was a problem with my ovaries) and the lady said... "you do know your pregnant right" I was like What ? no the blood test I took last week said negative, I was at this point already 5 weeks and 4 days. I have also heard that you can get pregnant and miscarry with out knowing anything. It's tough to tell even doctors sometimes can't conclude, the first few weeks to months are tricky cuz every woman reacts differently but I highly doubt that you can test positive and not be pregnant but hey I'm no doctor.

Yes, I've read about it in "What To Expect When You're Expecting" and it refers to it as a "chemical" pregnancy. Basically you can take the test before the baby actually implants in your uterus and get a positive result. Then when the baby doesn't actually implant you get your period and that's it. Most women don't even know they've had a chemical pregnancy at all because it happens so early on and they never missed their period. 4 weeks pregnant is fairly early on in the pregnancy, I called and made an appointment when I was 8 weeks and my doctor still wanted to confirm pregnancy with an ultrasound.

I have never had a false positive. But last week I got a positive ( not feeling really pregnant) and friday night I started to bleed. Had I not knew what was going on ( miscarriage) I would have throught it was just my period. The reason I knew I was miscarrying is I have had enough to know the difference, feelings, cramps, color of blood, flow..........all that.

I would say demand a test!! Why wait if you don't have to. Or go to one of those minute clinics for 40.00 you can get blood work done. :)

I have heard that you way more likely to get a negitive result and be pregnant than to get a positive result and not be. You should ask your primary care physician to test you if your OB-GYN won't. Good luck.

False positives are rare. False negatives less rare. If the digital one said you were preggo, I'd maybe find a doctor that was at least willing to test you. Most doctors don't want to even see you until at least 10 weeks, but will do a test to make sure.

why can't your doctor just order a vaginal ultrasound to see if you are? Or check to see if your cervix is closed? I had a positive and an inconclusive test and wasn't pregnant.. at least I don't think I am.. My first and only child, according to my est. date of conception, I had had my period the week after she was conceived. and it only lasted for three days..but i just had that little fuzzy feeling that something was abnormal. My period lasted the full time of 6 days this time and if nothing happens next month, I plan on getting my Mirena placed.

Alix, a home pregnancy test is only effective early on in the pregnancy.

It is possible to test positive, but to miscarry very early on (this is sometimes the explanation for a late period). It is also possible to "loose" the baby, but it is just resorbed into the body. Generally though, a positive test means you have a significant amount of the pregnancy hormone. The test is not actually wrong.

It is possible that your doctor's policy is to wait a few weeks because the tests cost money and their is a high incidence of miscarriage in the first weeks. But if you test positive, it means you are pregnant.

I did, it was aweful! My period was a week and a half late so I took a pregnancy test and it was positive! We were so so so excited! I was planning on waiting to tell everyone for as long as I could, but I couldn't resist telling my mom, MIL, aunt, aunt and best friend. Then I got my period a week later and I was devastated! To me it felt (emotionally) like I had a miscarriage. I talked to my doctor and he said it may have indeed been one (a chemical pregnancy..or very early miscarriage)

Needless to say when I got pregnant again I waited the 12 weeks to tell everyone!

You might be. My mother had periods throughout her pregnancy up to 5 months. I have heard of tests being negative and actually being pregnant. I spotted when I was 2 months pregnant and my test was positive.
