Has anyone has a baby with a UTI? My 17 week old has just started on antibiotics? A sample has been sent off to grow cultures?

UTI's are not common in infants, but if they have one, it needs to be treated right away. It is standard care to start on antibiotics while waiting for the culture because an unchecked infection can cause damage to the kidneys. Infants this young with a UTI should also be checked by urology to make sure that they don't have vesicoureteral reflux. That is where the ureters, tubes leading from the kidneys to the bladder are implanted at an odd angle causing urine to flow back to the kidneys. This can result in UTI's and damaged kidneys as well. I would talk to your pediatrician about how to proceed after this infection is cleared up.
