Has anyone used the Piggyback Rider?

I have been looking at this thing called the Piggyback rider and it intrigues me. We like to hike and there are some trails that we simply can not go on because they would be too difficult for our 4 year old daughter. Or the hike might be a little long and I could see how this would provide her a break.

I love the idea, I am just trying to figure out if it is something that is worth the investment. We don't have any stores that sell it near us, so we can't try it out. Yes, I can order it and send it back, if need be, I am just trying to do a little research.

She is almost 45 pounds and most of the other carriers go only to 45 or 50.

Thoughts?

Don't u think 4 is a bit old for a piggy back pack? I wouldn't buy one for a kid that age one of those alone must weigh 40 lbs and the child another 30-40 just wait till he or she is old enough to hike or walk far distances u will have one sore back!

I carried a 35 pound back pack throughout Europe on several three month trips I took when I was in college. Carrying a child is similar, but there are precautions you MUST take in order not to injure yourself, or your child.
Make sure that the Piggyback rider has a well padded, wide, strong belt that can be tied tightly around your waist. Most of the weight will be balanced on your hips, not your shoulders, in matter fact, you shouldn't really feel much of the weight on your shoulders at all.
Always use a raised surface, such as a table and a low or backless chair to put on any kind of pack weighing more than what you can comfortably carry with one hand. Help your child into it on the table, put a chair with the back to the table in front of him or her, sit down, with your back to the pack, slip it on, securing the belt around your waist. Very carefully stand up and DO NOT arch your back backwards; that's an immediate mid-back injury! Slightly bend forward, tightening the belt at your waist, keeping the chair and the table behind you, for security, until you feel comfortable with the weight and take a few steps. Practice putting the pack on and practice walking; carrying a 50 pound child on your back, is nothing like carrying a pack of clothes that you can just fall on. BTW, never try this while sitting on the floor, sofa, or any other low or soft surface; you'll never be able to get up with your child on your back.

It looks interesting. If they'll let you send it back, it certainly can't hurt to try it.
Personally I like our Toddler sized Patapum carrier. It's shaped like a soft baby carrier so it can be used front or back and is for 18 month to 60 pound children. I've comfortably had a 40 lb. 5 year old in it while 6 months pregnant. It comes with a nap hood and snap on fanny pack. The only thing I don't like about it is that the straps are a little tricky so it takes some practice to put the kid on by yourself.

I just bought one, Piggyback Rider Nomis Basic Model & will give my insights after I receive it from the mail. Their website indicated that they used a more ROBUST FOAM on their carrying straps.

I think it looks plausible. I personally couldn't carry a 4 year old hiking but I'd say the product looks good.
