Have you had your 5 month old suddenly less cheerful and sleeping more than usual

I had a nursing daughter that only pooped every three to five days and I was assured that that was very normal for a nursing baby. I do know by abserving the children at school, if they haven't pooped for awhile it changes their whole disposition. If they are sleeping more than normal it certainly could be a growing spurt,or sometimes my children would do that before getting sick.

Update. B pooped and strangely laughing and giggling just like before!!

If ever you're unsure about something don't hesitate to get them checked out. It may not seem like much but you know your child better than anyone. There is also a good chance he's starting to teeth that certainly can make them a little grumpy. Also he may be constipated. A tiny amount of sugar water can help about a teaspoon in about 15mls of water. Not much but it helps. A nice warm bath and a belly message also helps.

All. Thank you so much for your notes. B was much better today. More smiles, playing and eating normally. Still no poop. Tried prune juice. Will call pedi if he doesn't poop tomorrow. On a side note, he seems to be holding his neck for much longer without complaining like he usually does. My mommy instinct says that he's developing and thus the slight deviation. Will keep you posted

Any time you feel something is wrong, go with your gut and take him in to the pedi. You know your baby! :) On a side note, I can't see any way this could be related to vaccinations, so take that worry off your list right now. But if there is something going on, or if there's reason for concern, the pedi will be able to let you know. Best of luck!

it can be pretty normal for them not to poop for several days. My two month olds average is about 4 days. is he breast or bottle fed? with bottle fed babies you have to be a little more careful with keeping them hydrated, but supposedly when it's warm out your milk automatically gets watery to keep them hydrated. If you're worried you can take him to the doctor but I'd give it a couple more days.

If he hasn't pooped in a few days, he may be constipated. That may be one of the reasons he has not been smiling/giggling. My advice would be to get him checked by his pediatrician. Better safe than sorry!!

Also he hasn't pooped for a few days - usually he goes once a day. Do you think that has something to do with this?

sounds like he's either growing or teething.
