Unfortunately there is no proven way to keep head lice away. What one can do is to purchase a good repellant such as the peppermint spray from My Hair Helpers website. Keep hair in a pony tail or braids or up for girls. The hair down may act as a"bridge" for girls.

Another way to catch lice early is to wet comb with the "terminator" comb so as to discover if there is activity. This way you can treat early!

Every night give your daughter a bath/shower and put conditioner in then go thought it with a nit comb ( ten pounds ) if you regularly do it they should stay away

When my oldest was little and in preschool she kept getting it. All of the RID/NIX treatments did absolutely nothing. I finally went to my pharmacist and he suggested mayonnaise slathered on the hair (cheap stuff works just fine, just make sure it's not "lite") and covered with plastic will sufficate them. He was right! Granted, my house smelled like and egg salad sandwhich for about 3 months because we had to keep doing it but it did make the eggs easier to get out and it DID kill the bugs. We also bagged up EVERYTHING that wasn't hard plastic and put it in the garage. I ended up ironing her bed (yes, with a regular clothing iron), then vaccuuming the mattress. That worked too.

also I use coconut shampoo on my kids, the coconut oil repels lice!

Listerine!!!!! The best thing ever for headlice! My daughter had it last summer, and after 5 treatments and nothing working, I googled home remedies! I bought the regular listerine (yellow) stuff, poured over dry hair, and covered with a plastic bag for 2 hours! Took it off and all lice were dead!!! Plus it disinegrated all the nits!! No outbreaks after that! It is such a vicious cycle and was such a pain, so glad I found that remedy!!!! GOOD LUCK!

I remove head lice for a living. My suggestion is to buy a "terminator" comb and the lice removal mousse-all natural. Do two treatments with 4-5 days of eachother. Comb daily on wet detangled hair for two weeks to remove any missed nits.Put the hair back and spray "mint" repellant on your child's hair daily.

to keep them away im sure uve clean all the beds n stuff a ? head lice love clean head so put gel in there hait n hairspray that causes bild up also you can buy tee tree shampoo . its kinda minty works like a charm :)

I'm guessing you don't live in the states, but there is a product called freee, with three e's. It kills the nits and renders the eggs sterile, but you still have to comb the hair out.
For whatever reason, boys are less likely to get lice, in fact,it's almost unheard of for adult males to get it, don't know why.

The only way to remove the nits is to comb them out. I would not (and did not) use the chemical treatments at all as all they do is kill the live lice (maybe) and do nothing else.

Use conditioner and do a thorough comb out until you can comb for 10 minutes without finding a single nit or lice. Then do a comb out every 2-3 days for a while. Once they are all gone it is still a good idea to do a comb out every week.

Tea tree oil supposedly helps at keeping them away.
