Heart rate determine sex

I believe that in most cases the baby's heart rate determines the sex. Well, I had my ultrasound and they told us that we were having a girl. I have her room all done. But her heart rate keeps going down. It was 148 at my last appointment it was like 170's in the beginning. I have been having dreams that I am having a boy instead. Does this mean anything? Have you ever been told you were having one and then had the other?

The funny thing is that this wives' tale says that if the BPM is above 140, it's a girl. If it's below 140, it's a boy.

My kid's was at exactly 140. I was fully expecting a hermaphrodite.

Seriously, though, quite a few studies have been done which have completely disproven any link between fetal heart rate and gender. So neither your fetal heart rate nor your dreams mean anything, I'm afraid. If you really want to know the sex, the only way to find out is via ultrasound.

LOL...yep, they constantly surprise you...by finding out your still get a surprise, just not aslong a build up as you would when waiting for the birth.

Anyway...nope, don't think the heartrate will tell you the sex of the baby. My first son had his heartrate in the late 150's....my 2nd son was in the 120's. We were also told that if bubs is awake and moving heaps the heartrate will be higher, whereas if he/she is sleeping it will be slower and steadier.

I don't know, Faye. Something tells me that having kids will result in me being surprised on a fairly regular basis...

I agree with Faye, its life's little surprise, plus, knowing 2 people who have been told they are having girls, and had boys.... Id be ensuring that it is 100% visible and no trace of a doubt if I were going to find out!!
Do you have another ultrasound? Im not sure how far along you are but sounds like you might have one more, definitely check if it is making you anxious!!
I have had 3 dreams of boys now, and 1 of twin girls, the heart rate is fairly low in comparison to my girl, so I have no idea!! the chinese gender prediction says boy, so we shall see!!!

I refused being told what the sex of both of mine was going to be. That is the one suprise you can have in your life. Why ruin God's surprise?

My little man had a heart rate of 160 or something like that. My daughter was around 140ish. So, no, you can't put any stock into the old wive's tales.

However, I *knew* from the moment I found out I was pregnant with my daughter she would be a girl. Same thing with my son: I *knew* that he would be a boy. Sometimes your instincts are the best predictors.

I swore up and down I was having a boy. His heart rate was 128. Out popped a girl. =)

I would trust the ultrasound...not heart rate or dreams.
